Jewish Support Craters: Now 4% of Israelis View Obama as “Pro-Israel” (Update: Left Laments)

J-Street crowd called last poll lies.. (*Updated Below*)

In June, Smith Research polling found that only 6% of Israelis thought Obama was Pro-Israel. Reaction from American left wing Jewish groups whom are doing their own ‘ junk polling’ in order to sway issues and policy through their close ties to the Obama administration was fierce. From Ira Forman at the NJDC to J-Street to DNC operatives, they reacted bitterly at the time..

Matt Dorf, who did Jewish outreach for the Democratic National Committee during the presidential campaign, was more blunt when it came to the survey results. “I don’t trust the poll,” he said, calling the Post a newspaper that has “not been friendly toward Obama.”

Personally, I lashed out at the administration and American Jewry for their dereliction of duty maintaining the historic American-Israeli alliance. When the Administration absurdly ordered Israel to halt construction in the Sheik Jarrah area of Jerusalem I predicted Obama’s numbers in Israel would hit 2% support. Seems like both American left wing groups & I were wrong, because the latest polling confirms the previous brutal numbers for Obama in Israel making the J-Street crew the most likely liars..

But, he hasn’t hit 2% as I predicted - He’s doing much better at a whopping 4%.

My bad.

Update: This time the Left is in Lament Mode!

As stated above last time it was all ‘lies’, but now the Obama realities are a little too ‘real’ to simply deny for the left, both in Israel & in America. It is time instead to rip our clothing, throw some ashes in the air and begin a long drawn out period of lament lol. Hoffman who’s been the point man on these issues for the Post gives it to us and it’s a dooosie!

The Israeli Left reacted with dismay over the weekend to the results of a Jerusalem Post-sponsored Smith Research poll published on Friday that found only 4 percent of Jewish Israelis believe that US President Barack Obama’s policies are more pro-Israel than pro-Palestinian. [...]

Meretz and Peace Now said the survey indicated that Israelis did not yet realize the potential benefits of the regional peace initiative that Obama was advocating, but they expressed confidence that they eventually would. “It is terrific for Israel that there is an American president with vision, and it is a pity that most Israelis don’t realize that,” Meretz faction chairman MK Ilan Gilon said. “Israelis think that Christian evangelists who rubber-stamp everything Israel does are the only Americans who are pro-Israel. But what is really good for Israel is a solution to the conflict, and Obama is doing what it takes to bring it about.”

Hey, he said it not me. Damn straight it’s nice to have friends in the Christian community, Gd bless them. We need our friends despite all this talk about Obama the Seer & his great visions. So far he’s fallen flat on his face as a visionary because reality is a much crueler mistress than dreamland. Neither Israelis, Palestinians or the Arab world is bitting. Go fish Mr. President.

The ‘Scary Christians’ threat alert level is now Yellow..

At least we can note a shift here, the dynamic in Israel has swung so violently away from the far left that the usual slurs will no longer fly. Notice that all of a sudden Evangelicals are not the scary boogieman as has been the usual chorus from the radical left? All of a sudden a different tune emerges and the left is on the defensive - ‘Israelis love our Christian Allies & their support – But it’s not good for us!’ I guess that makes Evangelicals something akin to Pizza or Steak as opposed to previously.. Radiation!? What yokels these leftists are.

It gets better, Peace Now chimes in too..

Peace Now secretary-general Yariv Oppenheimer said what mattered more at this stage of the peace process was Obama’s reputation in the Arab world, and not in Israel.

“Despite the results of the poll, the Israeli interest is that Obama will be popular in the Arab world, so he could bring about a peace agreement with Israel,” Oppenheimer said. “Bush was popular in Israel and hated around the world, and his policies did not help Israel end the Palestinian conflict or quell the Iranian threat. If he succeeds in his goals of advancing Middle East peace, I am sure he will become much more popular with Israelis.” [...]

Peace Now is cheering on the anti-Israel Obama actions, can you believe this? It is in our ‘best interests’ to be placed on the altar of appeasement he says! As if this will actually lead to anything but wasted concessions, pressure, and ever growing Israel animosity around the world. How convenient, Obama appeases the Muslim world at Israel’s expense and we get the blame for not seeing how altruistic & wonderful he is. It’s no wonder Oppenheimer is about as popular in Israel as Obama is..

Meanwhile the Zionist Organization of America is on the warpath..

Zionist Organization of America President Morton Klein, who was excluded from a recent meeting of US Jewish leaders with Obama, issued a press release saying that the poll confirmed a high degree of Israeli concern with and disapproval of the US leader’s policies.

“It is clear that the Obama administration’s relentless pressure upon America’s ally Israel to not permit even one additional Jew to move into eastern Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, demanding virtually the unilateral establishment of a Palestinian state that will certainly be a terrorist state antagonistic to Israel, while putting no serious pressure on the Palestinians to arrest terrorists or end incitement against Jews and Israelis, has led most Israelis to now believe that Barack Obama is friend of Arabs and not of the Israelis,” Klein said.

Damn straight. Which theory is most applicable here - A, B or C? You decide. Either way props to Gil Hoffman, this story has twice now made international waves & headlines and he’s all over it like Obama on Islam.

Subversion: National Jewish Democratic Council Has Harmed Israel (Updated)

Let it be known that given the choice between Israel & Iran, The World’s only Jewish State or a possible 2nd Holocaust the NJDC Chose.. Obama. (Updated below)

The rally is over, the numbers were weak, the political stars were not in attendance and a major opportunity for American Jewry and the legions of Christian Zionists to show their support for Israel, America and the quest to stop an Iranian Nuclear weapon was lost.

Time to Assign Blame

Now that the rally has passed & this important event was far less than it could have been it is time to assign blame. The blame goes to leadership of American Jewish Democrats. Cloaking themselves in non partisanship they have in fact displayed the ultimate partisanship, and harmed the State of Israel.

They have illustrated more clearly than anyone ever possibly could that in this Presidential race in the US, Democratic words that flow from the Democrats & Obama ticket are hollow. If the NJDC can choose its own self interests over Israel, it means that Obama certainly can too despite his endless assurances.

The NJDC

The NJDC strives to educate American Jews across the country about the differences between their political candidates on issues of concern to them, particularly focusing on protecting reproductive rights, the separation of church and state and a strong US-Israel relationship.

Yet, Ira Forman and the NJDC have weakened that relationship, threatened the State of Israel, threatened Israel’s American supporters, and threatened the gamut of Pro Israel American institutions for purely partisan reasons, in an attempt to cloak their democratic candidate and fool Jewish Democrats by denying them the real differences between political candidates on critical issues, in direct contravention of NJDC’s mission statement. The difference is the Republicans were prepared to stand with Israel, the Democrat leadership chose to stand with Obama. This is indeed a KEY difference. Very educational to us in Israel, thank you.

NJDC Statements on the Anti-Ahmadinejad Rally

NJDC Calls for Withdrawal of Palin Invitation to Iran Rally – Marc R. Stanley – September 17, 2008

Monday’s protest against Ahmadinejadis too important to be tainted by partisanship. Unfortunately, the campaign of Senator John McCain is much more interested in scoring political points than insuring there is bipartisan solidarity around the anti- Ahmadinejad efforts. Therefore, we call upon the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations to withdraw the invitation to Governor Sarah Palin andwe applaud Senator Hillary Clinton’s decision to not attend the rally after the attendance of Palin was announced.

By withdrawing Palin’s invitation, the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations will be able to return the focus to America’s outrage towards the genocidal musings and nuclear ambitions of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

This is a perversion of the truth. Too important to be tainted by partisanship? Only it seems when Obama is unwilling to send representatives. Before when Hillary Clinton, or Biden, or another surrogate might go to bolster Obama’s poor record on Israel issues the NJDC had no concerns about partisanship, it welcomed partisanship andfrankly so did I. Nothing would make an Israeli happier than to see big names stand with us in support from whatever party.

When the Republicans equally chose to send big names to support the State of Israel & America against Iranian lunacy, in the form of Sarah Palin – Democrats pulled their support and issued threats, Hillary Clinton the SENATOR FROM NEW YORK pulled her own support, decided to stay home. Then despite non partisan assurances outfits like the NJDC chose the entirely partisan option of threatening the entire event itself, the President of the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations, and anyone else they could in a manner so shameful it has never been seen before in Malcolm Hoenlein’s own words. (HT Daled Amos)

More from the NJDC – Commending their own fear tactics and shame, disgusting.

NJDC Commends the Withdrawal of Palin’s Invitation to the Iran Rally – Marc R. Stanley, September 18, 2008

Yesterday, NJDC said that Monday’s protest against Ahmadinejad was too important to be tainted by partisanship. Today, NJDC commends the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations, the National Coalition to Stop Iran Now, The Israel Project, United Jewish Communities, the UJA-Federation of New York and the Jewish Council for Public Affairs for making the right decision by withdrawing their invitation to Governor Sarah Palin. This decision shows that bi-partisan solidarity against President Ahmadinejad has won out over partisanship – even in this highly charged election year.

Really? No one won out here, least of all Israel.

Legal threats were issued, arms were twisted, dirty politics of the worst sort, certainly not the type supported by the avg. Jewish American irrespective of party, most especially not over an issue as critical as nuclear weapons possibly being aimed at the State of Israel. If anything major harm has been done to Obama in this highly charged election year, the NJDC has shown its true face to American Jewry, and it is an ugly one at that. Given the choice between Israel & Iran, the NJDC chooses lies, deception, coersion and most important of all.. Obama over all else, no matter who or what may be sacrificed in the process.

I already know who the better choice for Israel in America might be, how sad for the NJDC itself to have proven it so shamefully this week.

Link Update: J. Rubin has a great look at the issue and roundup of Jewish Organization reaction at PJM, suffice to say no one from both sides of the aisle is much impressed with this sorry NJDC display.

Update: Republicans Abroad Israel slams Dem leadership – Allied with Ahmadinejad

Jpost: Democrats give Ahmadinejad reason to smile

[...] In all likelihood, by getting their way and silencing Palin, the Democrats won only a Pyrrhic victory. This political gamesmanship is not going to sit well with most Jewish and pro-Israel voters-including Democrats and Independents-who take the Iranian threat seriously. The same day as the rally, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency warned that Iran could be hiding certain nuclear activities, and estimated that Iran could go nuclear in just six months. And this past Sunday, no longer content to merely “wipe Israel off the map,”Ahmadinejad presided over a military parade with banners reading “Israel should be eliminated from the universe.”

[...] Obama’s talk of post-partisanship and “reaching across the aisle” looks increasingly divorced from reality. If his operatives can’t even bring themselves to join Republicans in something with such wide bipartisan support and national security implications as preventing the nuclearization of Iran, just where is that supposed post-partisanship going to appear? Do they not agree that the enemy is Ahmadinejad, not the GOP?

There is something very wrong with a party that insists on sitting down with Ahmadinejad without preconditions, but refuses to share a stage with the Republican Party candidate for Vice President of the United States of America.

The article is rather scathing, but entirely true. I’ve railed against US Jewish & Democratic leadership here before, but never have they given me this much heavy ammunition, when Israel itself goes up on the chopping block, well.. This time it isn’t business, it’s personal.
