For the Win: ‘Pro-Israel’ J Street Feeling the Pain (Link Update)

Newsflash: Criticism is par for the course when you are “Pro-Israel” – pseudo or not so get used to it.

What a week for the far left progressive democratic organization posing as a Pro-Israel lobby. The group has finally arrived, from obscurity to irrelevance that is.

Instead of furthering the J Street Agenda their upcoming conference has effectively pulled back the shades. Is suspect the lead up to the event has been even better than the conference! In sum, what has been confirmed is what many of us involved already knew.

This outfit is a pro-Obama far left organ that relies mostly on distortion to achieve its aims. It’s got very little to do with being Pro-Israel. Here in Israel the views it lobbies for (to the left of the Meretz party yet!) are not supported by Israelis, we’re talking not even 5%.

By default, this should make them totally irrelevant. Far be it for me to criticize American Jews, though as a product of both North America & Israel I do so liberally.. But one has to ask oneself. If you are pushing views as a concerned pro-Israel Jew in the diaspora, shouldn’t these views at least mesh up with say someone somewhere ACTUALLY in Israel? Not even the majority, but say a minimum 5% threshold? So far that is simply not the case.

Supporting Israel does not mean telling it or its electorate what to do, that’s called undermining Israel.

Frankly, the fact that J Street views have near zero representation here makes the whole thing rather insulting to us Israelis. Worse, the outfits make up is mostly composed of former Olso Israeli rejects, people actively booted out of Israeli politics because they have near zero support here. They picked up & setup shop in America instead, where the money & ignorance hopefully flow.. (Mrs. Avital neglects to mention in that Op Ed piece she’s an adviser / affiliated with J Street – because this is their modus operandi – Distortion)

Sadly, Obama made a similar mistake when he figured he in all his uneducated wisdom knew better than Israelis themselves about Israel or what the country’s policy should be. He was rewarded with the actual statistics – 4% of Israelis agreeing with him & a crisis of confidence from a chief ally. It is no shocker that a front group created by Obama’s biggest far left wing Jewish American supporters to provide cover for unpopular anti-Israel positions, should commit the same cardinal sin - or be rewarded by the WH for that matter..

When you align yourself with Israel’s enemies, when you equate Israel to Hamas, when you try to kneecap the INTL sanctions effort regarding Iran’s nuclear program, you are neither “Pro-Peace” nor “Pro-Israel”. What you are is a member of the most far left fringe in American politics, radicals. So don’t be so surprised when you are called out as such. These are the facts.

All credit to Daled Amos, Soccerdad & doubly especially Goldfarb at the Standard for these & many other links, and a fantastically amusing / enlightening week. Many links above in the text have further detailed sourcing which tell the story far better than I can.

AMERICA!: Poll Shows Massive US Jewish Support Swing For Settlements & Iranian Strikes

American Jewry Responds to the Pressure Israel Meme

I’ve said it before, I simply do not believe American Jewry would hang Israel out to dry. Tough love the US Administration called it, policy based on an uncomfortably close relationship between far left wing agenda ridden groups & the White House, namely Jstreet. Pressure Israel, Israel is the obstacle, settlements are the obstacle..

J-street’s own bogus custom polling is designed to elicit distorted conclusions & produce media sound-bytes. It’s designed not to engender cooperation or strengthen the US Israel strategic relationship but to push a selective agenda. Sadly for J-street, the highly respected and authoritative yearly AJC polling of American Jewry is now out, and the results are not pretty for the Jstreet crew like Beilin, Ben-Ami or Daniel Levy..

American Jews have taken a sharply hawkish turn on Iran, with a majority now supporting a U.S. military strike to end that country’s nuclear weapons program, according to this year’s Survey of American Jewish Public Opinion, released on Wednesday by the American Jewish Committee. [...]

In the survey, 51 percent disagreed “with the Obama administration’s call for a stop to all new Israeli settlement activity, with 41 percent agreeing with that policy.

“That’s a significant shift, and the Obama administration is at fault for putting too much emphasis on the issue of settlements,” said Seymour Reich, a former president of the dovish Israel Policy Forum (IPF). “As a result, the Netanyahu government has outfoxed the administration — and taken American Jewish public opinion along with them.”

Ummm huh.. So much for the cooked claims by Jstreet to the contrary. But wait, on Iran it gets even worse for the pacifist appeasing anti-Israel crowd. In fact it gets much worse. We already know that in Israel the Obama policy has dramatically failed, that support for the US President is below 5% while Netanyahu is soaring in consensus. What we learn is that there is what is being termed ‘Unease’ within the American Jewish community at large over these pressure Israel policies as well, and that when it comes to Iran & existential threats – Even the Liberals get hawkish..

I advise reading the whole thing, because it is a real eye opener

Jewish Support Craters: Now 4% of Israelis View Obama as “Pro-Israel” (Update: Left Laments)

J-Street crowd called last poll lies.. (*Updated Below*)

In June, Smith Research polling found that only 6% of Israelis thought Obama was Pro-Israel. Reaction from American left wing Jewish groups whom are doing their own ‘ junk polling’ in order to sway issues and policy through their close ties to the Obama administration was fierce. From Ira Forman at the NJDC to J-Street to DNC operatives, they reacted bitterly at the time..

Matt Dorf, who did Jewish outreach for the Democratic National Committee during the presidential campaign, was more blunt when it came to the survey results. “I don’t trust the poll,” he said, calling the Post a newspaper that has “not been friendly toward Obama.”

Personally, I lashed out at the administration and American Jewry for their dereliction of duty maintaining the historic American-Israeli alliance. When the Administration absurdly ordered Israel to halt construction in the Sheik Jarrah area of Jerusalem I predicted Obama’s numbers in Israel would hit 2% support. Seems like both American left wing groups & I were wrong, because the latest polling confirms the previous brutal numbers for Obama in Israel making the J-Street crew the most likely liars..

But, he hasn’t hit 2% as I predicted - He’s doing much better at a whopping 4%.

My bad.

Update: This time the Left is in Lament Mode!

As stated above last time it was all ‘lies’, but now the Obama realities are a little too ‘real’ to simply deny for the left, both in Israel & in America. It is time instead to rip our clothing, throw some ashes in the air and begin a long drawn out period of lament lol. Hoffman who’s been the point man on these issues for the Post gives it to us and it’s a dooosie!

The Israeli Left reacted with dismay over the weekend to the results of a Jerusalem Post-sponsored Smith Research poll published on Friday that found only 4 percent of Jewish Israelis believe that US President Barack Obama’s policies are more pro-Israel than pro-Palestinian. [...]

Meretz and Peace Now said the survey indicated that Israelis did not yet realize the potential benefits of the regional peace initiative that Obama was advocating, but they expressed confidence that they eventually would. “It is terrific for Israel that there is an American president with vision, and it is a pity that most Israelis don’t realize that,” Meretz faction chairman MK Ilan Gilon said. “Israelis think that Christian evangelists who rubber-stamp everything Israel does are the only Americans who are pro-Israel. But what is really good for Israel is a solution to the conflict, and Obama is doing what it takes to bring it about.”

Hey, he said it not me. Damn straight it’s nice to have friends in the Christian community, Gd bless them. We need our friends despite all this talk about Obama the Seer & his great visions. So far he’s fallen flat on his face as a visionary because reality is a much crueler mistress than dreamland. Neither Israelis, Palestinians or the Arab world is bitting. Go fish Mr. President.

The ‘Scary Christians’ threat alert level is now Yellow..

At least we can note a shift here, the dynamic in Israel has swung so violently away from the far left that the usual slurs will no longer fly. Notice that all of a sudden Evangelicals are not the scary boogieman as has been the usual chorus from the radical left? All of a sudden a different tune emerges and the left is on the defensive - ‘Israelis love our Christian Allies & their support – But it’s not good for us!’ I guess that makes Evangelicals something akin to Pizza or Steak as opposed to previously.. Radiation!? What yokels these leftists are.

It gets better, Peace Now chimes in too..

Peace Now secretary-general Yariv Oppenheimer said what mattered more at this stage of the peace process was Obama’s reputation in the Arab world, and not in Israel.

“Despite the results of the poll, the Israeli interest is that Obama will be popular in the Arab world, so he could bring about a peace agreement with Israel,” Oppenheimer said. “Bush was popular in Israel and hated around the world, and his policies did not help Israel end the Palestinian conflict or quell the Iranian threat. If he succeeds in his goals of advancing Middle East peace, I am sure he will become much more popular with Israelis.” [...]

Peace Now is cheering on the anti-Israel Obama actions, can you believe this? It is in our ‘best interests’ to be placed on the altar of appeasement he says! As if this will actually lead to anything but wasted concessions, pressure, and ever growing Israel animosity around the world. How convenient, Obama appeases the Muslim world at Israel’s expense and we get the blame for not seeing how altruistic & wonderful he is. It’s no wonder Oppenheimer is about as popular in Israel as Obama is..

Meanwhile the Zionist Organization of America is on the warpath..

Zionist Organization of America President Morton Klein, who was excluded from a recent meeting of US Jewish leaders with Obama, issued a press release saying that the poll confirmed a high degree of Israeli concern with and disapproval of the US leader’s policies.

“It is clear that the Obama administration’s relentless pressure upon America’s ally Israel to not permit even one additional Jew to move into eastern Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, demanding virtually the unilateral establishment of a Palestinian state that will certainly be a terrorist state antagonistic to Israel, while putting no serious pressure on the Palestinians to arrest terrorists or end incitement against Jews and Israelis, has led most Israelis to now believe that Barack Obama is friend of Arabs and not of the Israelis,” Klein said.

Damn straight. Which theory is most applicable here - A, B or C? You decide. Either way props to Gil Hoffman, this story has twice now made international waves & headlines and he’s all over it like Obama on Islam.

Obama’s Ivory Tower: Professor’s Lecture to Israel Reaffirms ‘Stalwart Alliance’ (Link Update IV)

Self-reflection or deflection?
(Important updates below)

Meetings with prominent US Jewish leaders at the White House have resulted in little to nothing for the Jewish State but more of the same. The meeting initiated by some of Obama’s strongest supporters, moneymen and good pal Mr. Solow (who now heads up AIPAC the Conference of Presidents, sorry the other Obama yes man Lee Rosenberg now heads up AIPAC, it’s hard to keep track these days with so many O cheerleaders in every position of power – edit) was clearly designed to accomplish one goal. Deflection.

  • Yes, with approximately 6% of Israelis polled now viewing the American President as Pro-Israel
  • No doubt a few US Jews feeling a little shystered by the President who fed them candy coated sweet nothings while campaigning, only to later deliver threats.
  • Prominent Obama campaigners like representative Wexler in Forida suffering ugly credibility problems, and worse routinely being chewed out publicly by American Jews for leading them astray.

Clearly, both the White House itself and its power playing progressive Jewish apologists need a little deflection these days and they need it bad..

Radical Ideologue / Child President advises us to seriously ‘Self Reflect’.

Yeah, that’s rich. You know Mr President, Israelis have spent an inordinate amount of time the last 2 to 3 years in bomb shelters for days & weeks. Sheltering from the attacks, missiles, mortars, and ball bearing screw packed rockets our proposed ‘Peace Partners’ bestow upon us. We have had plenty of time to ‘self- reflect’ while you preach to us the merits of your now world recognized as foolish appeasement policies, and profound weakness.

We’ve reflected while you put your feet up on the White House desk, and lecture our leaders on the merits of your Wright Khalidi inspired prattle and world philosophy. We no doubt seriously reflect while you curtsy to Saudi Kings, and express how ‘troubled you are’ over Women being beaten to death by our enemies in Iran. There’s the occasional self reflection while you waffle on North Korean Nuclear Weapons and Iranian delivery systems.

We seemingly self-reflect for decades now? While our leaders consistently time & again offer the Palestinians everything they have asked for only to be rejected. Yet somehow at the end of the day the blame is ours, the onus is on us, and liberal elitist fools dig a little deeper and deflect from these realities by counseling us to perhaps ‘reflect a little deeper’. You’ve got some serious Jewish Chutzpah there El Presidente, matched only apparently by a monstrous Ego and a delusional ‘power to heal’.

Family Debate? Good, Let me Chime in.

I don’t know how it works in rich mixed Indonesian Chicagoan Hawaiian families, but I can tell you in Jewish families generally we don’t single out our family members for undeserved public ridicule & scorn over artificial issues. We don’t tarnish the family name apologizing for invented slights, or rewrite history in far off places to suit our whims. We don’t bury past agreements and play pretend with national commitments & former Presidential assurances. We don’t threaten and withhold weapons or arms from each other, and we don’t setup straw men at the family’s expense in order to cozy up to dictators & despots, or establish our chops as an honest broker with Radical Islamists.

In light of your now plummeting approval ratings, the trillions in dollars of debt you are amassing on behalf of your other ‘family members’ in America. In light of the fact that your engagement strategies are falling flat on their face and your world view is a bad joke.. Upon some reflection of mine here, I say you might want to consider a stoppage in the deflection plays your pirouetting piranha Rahm Emanuel is always playing.. and maybe take a good long look in the mirror.

I’ll Buy That For a Dollar!

Shhhh.. I'm really an appeasing Pan-Arabist Marxist (Photo Reuters)

Shhhh.. I'm really an appeasing Pan-Arabist Marxist (Photo Reuters)

Here in Israel even the far leftists in line with your agenda are suggesting you begin a massive ‘sales job’ to win over Israeli public opinion. Unfortunately unlike the J-Street sycophants who have your ear in America, few Israelis are impressed by your gift for gab, or think that a token PR visit will suddenly make the planet sprout roses however. Better start boning up now, it’s going to have to be your biggest foreign-soil speech / con yet because I have news..

When you re-wrote Arab Israeli history in Cairo and stated in effect that Israel was a result of the Holocaust you didn’t touch the third rail of Israeli politics. You touched the third rail of Israeli society in a country where everyone in the family has experienced part of the genocide. You de-legitimized our very existence as Jews, the only reason we actually survived in order to score some cheap political points with the Muslim world.

When our Prime Minister responded in an internationally televised speech to grant concessions you have been lording over us where were you? You were golfing. You couldn’t even bother to tune in, that’s how duplicitous you are about your ‘deep concern & friendship’ with Israel. More ‘Words’, you know I’m just saying one family member to another..

Respect is a two way street

Maybe if the American administration stops slapping us around & respects Israel a little we’ll return the favor. Maybe we’ll change our tone when you do, I’ll gladly do the same. We are after all committed to our friends & family, our American brothers & sisters and of course the cause of peace.. But not to the American Progressive movement or its foolish philosophies, no matter how much deflection is employed – Our security & way of life is much too precious.

Hat Tip to the memeorandum for a number of links.

LINK UPDATE:
JPOST Editorial wondering why the President didn’t get to hear much resistance from US Jewish Leaders.
Haaretz Editorial beseeching the President to come to Israel in order to explain himself more clearly..

“Now the U.S. administration must convince the Israeli public that it has a friend in the White House, and that the administration’s positions correspond with Israel’s national interests.”

When you read that in the left wing Israeli daily which practically wants to wash Obama’s feet you know the situation has gotten beyond bad. Incidentally Mr. President, when you formulated your Israel policy based on polling in Israel your pals at J-Street, the NJDC, and leftists Israeli organizations prepared for you? They were lying. Unless you have something radically different to say please stay home because you’re far from a rockstar here.

Update II – The American Orthodox Union (Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America) in attendance of the meeting, pulls few punches and slams the moral equivalency arguments put forth by the President. Let’s hope the Union’s Rabbis speak to congregants this Sabbath and raise awareness in our diaspora communities about feelings over these issues and the importance of a strong vibrant American / Israel alliance. Let’s hope in fact this occurs in congregations of all denominations within the US. (HT Jen Rubin, Contentions.)

**Update III**In today’s Jerusalem Post Isi Liebler does it all much more eloquently than I can.
You’ll find all the important notions I tried to articulate in my previous few posts on these topics packaged up quite perfectly, minus my more raw hormonal rage lol. Thanks Mr. Liebler! As usual the Wise Zionist shines through..

Candidly Speaking: The case against Obama – Isi Liebler.

Small Comforts: Obama and Israel Not Headed for ‘Train Wreck’

Lovely Analogy..

Herb Keinon goes the distance with Democratic Congressman Rob Wexler at JPOST in a 2 page interview. Of course the topic of choice, the until now seemingly arctic winds blowing Israel’s way from the Obama administration. A lot of people whom I respect are cautious, or coming to the relationship’s defense so far which is certainly a positive read on the situation, but in most cases they are defending against what Wexler himself defines as a ‘Train Wreck’ in the American Israel relationship..

[...] “I can say unequivocally that the anxiety is not warranted,” said Wexler, who has spoken to the US president about Middle East issues, and speaks regularly with top White House staffers dealing with the matter, including National Security Adviser Gen. (ret.) James Jones.

He arrived in Israel on Friday for a series of meetings in Jerusalem and in the Palestinian Authority, and will return to Washington on Monday.

“I am in constant contact with those in the administration responsible for policy in this region, and nothing could be further from the truth,” he said, regarding reports that the US and Israel are on a collision course.

At least someone is in constant contact, too bad these are not bilateral contacts with Israel.. We have seen very few of those thus far from America here..

“As someone who was with Barack Obama from the very beginning of his campaign, I am not going to be surprised or fall prey to the too often false representation of now President Obama; and likewise I think the degree of angst also misrepresents Prime Minister Netanyahu’s policies as well,” said Wexler, who spoke of Obama’s pro-Israeli credentials as one of the featured speakers at the Democratic National Convention in Denver last summer.

“These two men are not headed for a train wreck,” he said. “They are not. Both men want the relationship to be as strong, if not stronger – if that is possible – than it has been in the past.” [...]

All or Nothing?

What I will again say is that I find it somewhat amusing this notion of a train wreck, as if highlighting what are clearly major shifts in the new administration in Washington toward Israel, puts forth the notion that the two countries will be mortal enemies in the near term. This is somewhat of an absurd position, the USA & Israel were not mortal enemies when Bush SR. severely threatened Israel with 10 billion dollars in loan guarantees, nor were they mortal enemies when Clinton initiated the Oslo Accord ceremony leading to heavy concessions by Israel - But nothing remotely resembling peace.

We were certainly not mortal enemies or experiencing any train wrecks when we dismantled settlements & gave back Gaza in return for Hamas terrorists & rocket attacks. Nonetheless, these efforts brought little in return for a heavy price in Israel, including thousands of dead Israelis. Despite it all, we still seem to be targeted by the newest collection agency, and severely at that.

Israel is in a precarious position

Threats abound, peace is seemingly looking far off when one measures the realities of the area here. Despite those realities, there is a non stop effort currently to portray the exact opposite from the US, the EU, Russia & the UN, as if peace is only a small jump away. Pressures on Israel, which is already under duress including two wars in two years and possibly a large conflict on the horizon, when no resolution resulting from those pressures seems in any way imminent – These pressures are as damaging a policy as can currently be envisioned, and they are the core thrust of the Obama administration to date from what I can see.

Does that mean a train wreck?

No, but it does mean that lording assistance vs Iran for concessions is far from friendly, it is dangerous. Wexler maintains that is not the case, there is no Quid Pro Quo he says. But every single statement by top level US officials points in the exact opposite direction. These trains may not wreck, but they sure seem to be speeding farther & farther apart at alarming velocity..

Major shift in policy

Appeasing the Muslim street using Israeli concessions does not mean a train wreck has occurred in relations, but it does mean that Israel’s special & deserved status as a crucial strategic ally of the United States has seemingly softened severely at the expense of Muslim outreach. Frankly, representative Wexler is Obama’s number one outlet to the US Jewish community, his purpose has been to mollify American Jewish concerns with kind words both during the campaign and now.

His endorsement by the anti-Israel J-Street PAC gives little comfort, on the contrary it raises alarms and for good reason. J-Street puts all the onus & blame for lack of peace in the region on Israel, employs moral equivalency of the worst sort equating Israel’s vibrant morality led Democracy to Terrorists. If this is the line of the new American administration and to date something similar has been bubbling up out of Washington, then no train wrecks are needed..

Large questions remain

It is enough to tie Israel’s hands and derail us, to cause irreparable damage here. We don’t require any head on collisions..

As an aside, to date Obama’s amateurish crew seems to have little to no understanding of Israeli political realities. They seemingly live in a progressive bubble, SD touched on that a bit in the link above commenting on the excellent Jennifer Rubin. What if they collapse our coalition based government with their fanciful concepts or ineptitude? It won’t take all that much to accomplish that, and at what point does that constitute a train wreck if our brand new government is forced to topple under American pressure?

Cruising down J-Street: Obama Attacks Likud, Biden Attacks AIPAC!? (UPDATED Biden threatened AID cut)

‘Biden won’t take a back seat to no one’.. Except maybe to Iran
(Updated damagingly below)

In a strange supportive mixed-message play at American Jews & Media in the US Biden re-inforced his strong support of Israel, stating that Israeli decisions should be made in Jerusalem, that’s certainly sound and appreciated. Oddly, he then went on to trash AIPAC which is not..

[...] The Vice Presidential nominee vowed that the United States will “always standby Israel, without telling Israelis what they can and cannot do.”

Biden dismissed the prominent role played by the pro-Israel lobby AIPAC, saying the group “doesn’t speak for the entire Jewish community,” and it “doesn’t speak for the state of Israel, no matter what it insists on any occasion.”

The Delaware senator also attacked critics who have questioned his support of Israel saying, “I will take a back seat to no one, and again, no one, in AIPAC or any other organization, in terms of questioning my support of the State of Israel.” [...]

Obama Biden Call Shotgun in J-Street front seat?

The new hard left ‘Progressive Lobby Group’ J-Street seems to have deep ties to the Democrat ticket. Despite being nearly totally unknown, clearly not in Israel’s best interest policy wise, and not having anywhere near the support of Jewish Americans compared to AIPAC, if any. But J-Street does have something quite clutch – Obama & Biden fans it seems. It’s no wonder why, when you look at the ticket’s foreign policy spiel..

[...] Biden also questioned the wisdom of a pre-emptive U.S.-led attack on Iran, at a time when the U.S. is “bogged-down in Iraq,” adding that he has been “stunned by the incompetence” of the Bush administration in its handling of the war in Iraq.

Biden also defended his opposition to the The Kyl-Lieberman Iran amendment which called for labeling Iran’s Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization and passed by a vote of 76 – 22, saying that he didn’t want to help the government find a “pretext for war with Iran”, especially in light of what he described as the Bush administration’s inept handling of the war in Iraq. [...]

One clearly begins to understand, that there will never be pre-text for striking Iran according to Biden, as taking any sort of action whatsoever even if benign might be interpreted as yet another step towards such a strike, heaven’s forbid this is anathema to this ticket and that’s fine. American policy should be decided in America. But even the threat of a strike – The single piece of real leverage America has is clearly not in the cards.

Easy come, easy go Israel policy?

It brings in to question how strongly Biden or Obama would really support allied Israel if IT felt it needed to strike in the end, support Israel would need badly. Clearly these two take a backseat in their own words to no one, American Jews or AIPAC included, and certainly not Israel legitimately, which is a foreign sovereign country. But somehow I get the feeling allies will not be riding along in the backseat with these guys, more like in the trunk.

Obama himself has already made his views on The Likud quite clear. Apparently as long as we here in ‘Jerusalem’ choose to drive on J-Street, choose appeasement, or surrender, and the Meretz Peace platform ‘to endanger the state’ supported by 1% of our own population, we should be just fine in the buddy department under the New Democrats. Phew!

But what happens if that’s not what we decide?

In that case it is very comforting knowing that this ticket disparages AIPAC, the closest American organizational friend Israel has in America, its number one ally in the world. Why did Obama pander to AIPAC in the first place if it’s not important? Who was he trying to impress, clearly not Joe Biden. It is also comforting that Obama disparages the Likud, the largest political party representing the largest slice of the Israeli electorate for the last decade in Israel, where Israelis themselves get to ‘decide’.

AIPAC responds:

[...] Joe Biden is a strong supporter of the US-Israel relationship,” said AIPAC spokesman Josh Block in response to Biden’s statements. “He’s been a staunch supporter of US aid to Israel, a leader in the fight against Palestinian terrorism and is a vocal advocate of the special relationship between the two democracies,” he continued. “We look forward to continuing to work with him in the Senate or the White House,” should he win.

“Barack Obama and Joe Biden have both enjoyed close and effective cooperation with AIPAC over many years, grounded in their respect for its important mission to support Israel’s security and a strong US-Israel relationship,” Obama spokeswoman Wendy Morigi said in a statement released later Wednesday. “That is a mission they share, and they look forward to continuing to work closely with AIPAC on their common goals.” [...]

Biden’s Big Mouth & Obama’s Big Talk

These guys & their 300 policy advisers are baffled as to why they can’t secure more of the Jewish vote stateside, is it any wonder? What with them attacking the Likud, AIPAC and preaching the virtues of J-Street? The bigger question might be how they have secured any of the American Jewish vote at all! Both these men are Pro-Israel, but the more they talk the more one wonders which Israel it is they are supporting in this election, the one that is an American ally and depends on the good people of the USA, or the one that will win them the most votes?

UPDATE (HT SD) – Biden should probably ease off, in light of this damaging exchange with Israel’s Peace negotiating Prime Minister Begin..

The quotes came out a few days ago but were unsubstantiated, my right word has done some fantastic digging to bring up the relevant facts.

The exchange is between Likud Prime Minister Menachem Begin of Israel, and a younger Senator Joe Biden in 1982 around the time of Operation Peace for the Galilee (Lebanon War I) in which Biden to get his way threatens TO CUT OFF AID TO ISRAEL and is chided in return by Begin for his fair weather friendship..

New York Times, June 24, 1982:

Reporting on his meetings with the members of Congress, Mr. Begin said one of the senators had threatened to cut off aid if Israel continued creating settlements in the West Bank. The senator is reported to have been Joseph R. Biden Jr., Democrat of Delaware,

Mr. Begin cited the incident to give voice to a feeling that is held in his entourage – that Israel has rendered military service to the United States in battle-testing American arms.

“Sir, do not threaten us with cutting aid,” Mr. Begin said, in recounting his reply. “First of all, you should know that this is not a one-way street. You help us, and we are very grateful for your help, but this is a two-way street. We do a lot for you.”

Indeed, Mr Biden a pro Israel senator may want to ease up on the AIPAC bashing and aid cutting, lest someone like me get the wrong idea and think an Obama/Biden ticket might be a disaster for Israel..

the memeo is on the story now, Rosner who seems to have left the comforts of Haaretz and spread his wings a bit ties into the J-Street theme, while the Huffington Post keeps desperately trying to get the Jews for Jesus meme going and smear Palin, too bad we’ve already been there and done that, with Obama turning out the loser.
