Worst Relations in 35 Years?
Obama has gone Rogue, declared war on America’s allies.
Confirmation begins to flow out like sewage how the President of the United States cynically drummed up an artificial crisis, with the ally his administration less than 4 days ago called – ‘The best friend America ever had’. Worse, the President was widely reported personally consulting, instructing & coordinating with Hillary Clinton before her scathing 45 minute scream fest toward Netanyahu. One gathers they were rather busy planning & effectuating this engineered crisis, and Chicago style blackmail campaign.
Don’t you worry, some of his best friends are Jewish.
All of this is clearly designed to squeeze & bleed from Israel yet MORE concessions, in order to shore up the Obama administration’s faltering policies & world view. The President of the United States is frankly endangering the State of Israel playing these games. Let’s be clear, this seems worse than Bush & Baker (Baker while in office at State famously declared “F**k the Jews”), at least then Israel wasn’t being strung up by a noose with an existential military threat.
Haaretz illuminates the insane concessions Obama is trying to leech out, the threats he is using against Israel follow just below..
- Reverse building decisions in Jerusalem and implement a freeze, despite previous agreements with the USA that building in Jerusalem would continue.
- Make appeasement gestures to the Palestinians who despite an open Israeli invitation for unconditional talks, refuse to negotiate.
- Release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners, terrorists!
- Withdraw IDF defense forces from additional territory in the West Bank!! Transfer control to Palestinians (Endangering Israel is the President’s specialty it seems). All of it without ANY peace deal whatsoever.
- End the Quartet endorsed blockade of Terrorist controlled Gaza, territory we just finished having to go to war with and allow Gaza to rearm full force.
- Remove yet more security checkpoints and security implements in the West Bank, despite effusive praise from both the USA & Tony Blair over how much Israel had already done in this regard, and glowing praise over how Israel has helped the Palestinian economy flourish.
- Issue declarations that indirect talks with the Palestinians who only demand more & more, deal with all the conflict’s core issues including; statehood declaration, borders, refugees, Jerusalem, security, settlements. In other words, enter these indirect talks & allow our GREAT FRIEND President Obama to moderate & impose his own solution – One which will clearly be entirely drafted by the Arab League itself, and hoisted upon Israel’s democracy.
Backstabbing Obama sure to be popular fellow in Israel now..
How can we possibly take the President at his word? His credibility internationally and especially with Israel is borderline near zero. This guy keeps breaking deals with us left, right & center..
- The settlement issue (another crisis a few months ago) was the 1st deal Obama broke with us, when he disregarded pledges made by G.W. Bush to Ariel Sharon.
- The second deal broken just this week by Obama, was the acknowledgment that Jerusalem would NOT be subject to the and I quote Hillary Clinton: “Unprecedented concession by Israel” to freeze settlements in the West Bank.
- Now a third deal has been broken by the President with Israel, regarding the format & substance of the issues to be handled in indirect talks. Israel refused to negotiate core issues by US mediation for what is now obvious reasons.
The President seems to believe the word of the United States of America carries little meaning, no bearing on trust – This is truly heartbreaking for many hundreds of millions around the world who so admire American ideals. Poland learned this, the Czechs learned this, the UK, now Israel knows it too. We are under attack from our #1 ally!? It is bewildering & shocking.
The bludgeon for Obama’s threats?
Vital supplies, jet fuel, & armaments needed to defend Israel from an Iranian multi front war.. This beyond the apparent arms freeze Israel has been under since Obama took office. All of these issues, part & parcel of pledges to Israel made previously to garner our patience regarding a strike on Iran. Now, apparently even the entire American Israel relationship itself is being used as a threat judging by statements from US officials on Sunday shows.
Requests of the Palestinians? The intransigent party who refuses to negotiate? NONE.
How can we trust this President? Is he living on the same planet as the rest of us!?
There can be no trust here, these irrational demands, artificial crises, and plain and simple backstabbing behavior must be REJECTED by Israel. Obama is either trying to get our country destroyed, or bring down the government of a friendly country & ally. The majority of Israeli opinion cannot support such irrational appeasement demands just to satisfy President Obama’s Palestinian fetish, or to prop up his failing policies.
Last week the US claimed we insulted them! What was that whole Biden speech about!? Days later Obama has embarrassed Biden way more than we could have even if we had tried. Obama made Biden out to look like a liar, intent on misleading the Israeli people. I doubt that was Joe’s intentions, I believe he may have been just as blindsided as Netanyahu.
UPDATE: This gambit may not roll as ‘Chicago style’ as Obama / Axelrod want..
If we see the counter 1 , 2 punch of both Israeli domestic as well as American domestic resistance to the President’s alliance rift making games, the upper cut for Obama may be a painful one. The Administration deftly used the Friday trash cycle in the US and the Israeli shutdown Sabbath to launch their coordinated volley. But today is Monday, and Israel’s coalition has spoken..
While officials in Washington were quoted as saying that Netanyahu would have to choose between his ties with US President Barack Obama’s government and his coalition partners, ministers and MKs took steps to ensure that he would not have to make such a difficult choice.
Despite American pressure, not one of the 30 ministers in Netanyahu’s cabinet has expressed support for freezing construction over the pre-1967 border in Jerusalem. A check among the five Labor ministers found that they were all in favor of continuing to build in neighborhoods like Ramat Shlomo and Gilo, where the American administration opposes building.
“The consensus in Israel supports continuing to build in Jerusalem and that’s not going to change,” a Labor minister said. [...]
AIPAC has issued a rare statement in opposition to the US administration’s actions.
On a Sunday night no less. They are not thrilled to put it mildly it would seem with the public undressing of Israel for such a politically cynical purpose, nor one coming only a week out from the annual conference to boot.
Hillary Clinton, who just finished berating Bibi for 45 minutes & Netanyahu will both be there. That will likely make the Administration look even more volatile & erratic than it already appears to onlookers everywhere, if they have to scale this back!? Biden & Clinton are both going to take huge lumps to the face it would seem for his Majesty Barack before all is said & done I think.
The last key piece is American opinion, in this case fronted by their elected representatives. It is still Sunday night in America, so we will have to see how the reaction unfolds this week. I question the logic, foreign policy and thinking currently going on at the White House, in this I am most certainly not alone. Bibi, Obama, Biden, Clinton, everyone it seems comes out of this pained & bruised. Only the Palestinians benefit?? Has America become a Palestinian client state?
They call it “Smart Power” for a reason I guess, it just eludes me because I’m stupid.
Just as pandering to him will achieve pretty much the same..
In Honduras a new President has been elected, he’s a conservative. You know things are going real well when a tiny latin nation tells the leader of the free world to take a hike, and then a few months later he’s lacing up his hiking boots.
In Iran, illicit nuclear enrichment & plutonium work continues unabated & is even expanding while America is seemingly on the retreat. The Russians have given Obama no quarter, and the Arab world from Lebanon to Syria right down to the Palestinians themselves seemingly thumb their noses at Obama on an almost daily basis now.
What has all this talk from the podium achieved? Nothing.
One could argue that these efforts in foreign countries of re-writing history, tarnishing America’s great exceptionalism, embracing Arab narratives, and bowing deep have not delivered tangible concrete results – But that the goal was to engender a ‘feeling’, a wave of good will or hope which itself would deliver..
Such tripe may actually speak to Obama adherents, after all they staked it all on Hope & Change. However sadly for them most of all, reality has fallen flat. The old saying goes ‘talk is cheap’, yet when the President talks someone somewhere inevitably ends up paying a price. Thus far it’s been America and her allies paying with no possible hope of return on the investment.
Feeding the Crocodile
Fouad Ajami writes in the WSJ on Obama’s signature big talk program – Pandering to the Muslim World & the results as recorded by Pew intl surveys..
In the Palestinian territories, 15% have a favorable view of the U.S. while 82% have an unfavorable view. The Obama speech in Ankara didn’t seem to help in Turkey, where the favorables are 14% and those unreconciled, 69%. In Egypt, a country that’s reaped nearly 40 years of American aid, things stayed roughly the same: 27% have a favorable view of the U.S. while 70% do not. In Pakistan, a place of great consequence for American power, our standing has deteriorated: The unfavorables rose from 63% in 2008 to 68% this year.
Mr. Obama’s election has not drained the swamps of anti-Americanism. That anti-Americanism is endemic to this region, an alibi and a scapegoat for nations, and their rulers, unwilling to break out of the grip of political autocracy and economic failure. It predated the presidency of George W. Bush and rages on during the Obama presidency.
In other words, nothing has changed.
Here in Israel however plenty has changed. A nation which reveres America & her leaders has turned decidedly sour on Obama across the board. Through it all we’ve tossed concession after concession to feed the appeasement monster that is Obama’s failed policies, all in the hopes that he will have our back in regards to Iran. That’s what this is about, no one here believes the Palestinians want peace, we know what they want – Pieces of Israel one after the other until nothing is left.
Sadly, this notion that we can feed the Obama beast chunks of appeasement meat in return for his good graces is just as flawed as Obama’s own failed philosophies. We can freeze settlements, hand off Jerusalem, prostrate ourselves to failed international policies till the sun comes up. It won’t deliver peace, not with an Arab world which still hasn’t reconciled itself to Israel. Nor will it deliver American carrier groups & B-2 strike bombers to flatten those enemies which threaten us & the region as a whole.
I can’t say I blame my Prime Minister, appeasement is in fashion these days. I just hope he’s got a backup plan for when the day dawns on all of us here in Israel, that just like the Palestinians, Obama is incapable of delivering the goods.
He’s President of The United States of America, Not MoveOn.Org
New polling out confirms previous American attitudes on Iran & reveals yet another core issue on which the President is seemingly off the mark compared to his constituents, the American people. But first, the previous numbers relating specifically to striking Iran militarily.
In May I posted about Rasmussen polling which showed American support for Israel vs Iran was going up, in contrast to the harsh tones coming out of the Obama Administration relating to Israel..
With the screws ever tightening between Washington & Jerusalem and Obama looking to seemingly squeeze the Jewish nation, Americans polled show increasing support numbers for their ally Israel facing an Iranian threat. Rasmussen reports a fairly dramatic 7% poll lift for Israel since last summer on the question of military force, and the USA coming to assist Israel should we be forced to strike..
Forty-nine percent (49%) of Americans say that if Israel launches an attack against Iran, the United States should help Israel. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 37% believe the United States should do nothing while just 2% believe the U.S. should help Iran. Last summer, just 42% said the United States should help Israel while 46% said the nation should do nothing.
Sixty-four percent (64%) of Republicans say that the U.S. should help Israel as do 50% of those not affiliated with either major political party. A plurality of Democrats (44%) say that the U.S. should do nothing. [...]
On the question in general of American priorities, again our allies showed strong predilection for stopping Iran, and not just for Israel’s sake. Americans polled previously viewed Iran as the number one foreign policy threat to the United States of America specifically due to the nuclear threat.
Stopping Iran is considered by American voters top priority, and this informed public has come to the realization it may be up to its ally Israel should other efforts fail. If that is the case, Israel requires both American moral support & assistance which numbers show are forthcoming overall from our American friends on the military front.
Sixty-six percent (66%) of all voters now say that preventing Iran from getting nuclear weapons is more important than preventing war between Iran and Israel. That’s up fourteen percentage points from 52% last July.
Just 23% now say preventing war between Iran and Israel is more important than stopping Iran from getting nuclear weapons
Iran is racing ahead toward nuclear weapons.
With Obama’s Administration lording & linking Palestinian issues over Israel as a pre-requisite for assisting its ally, these numbers and American opinion are crucial. If we are forced to strike, the chances of success are magnified exponentially with our ally’s quiet assistance. Israel has already made major concessions in the quest for peace under Netanyahu, but to date we have not seen Obama become more forceful on Iran despite the glaring failures apparent to all with his much hyped ‘engagement strategy’.
New Numbers Show Americans Again Standing Up to Iran – Where is Obama?
On the topic of averting strikes through strong non military means involving sanctions or fuel blockades, Americans speak out loudly in overwhelming numbers leaving the President in their dust & significantly out to lunch for months now. The Israel Project has new polling out which confirms trends seen previously via Rasmussen’s polling.
According to a new poll conducted by Public Opinion Strategies and Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research and commissioned by The Israel Project:
• 81 percent of American voters believe Iran is a serious threat to U.S.
• Two-thirds support proposal to “prevent any company doing business in the United States if that company provides Iran with refined petroleum.”
Washington, D.C. – A new bipartisan poll (Word document, PowerPoint) commissioned by The Israel Project (TIP) shows that an overwhelming number of Americans (81%) believe that Iran poses a serious threat to the United States, and that the international community should prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons (86%).
Further, Americans agree (84%) that “even with all the problems the nation faces here at home, we must still work hard to stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons.”
TIP Founder Jennifer Laszlo Mizrahi noted that, “While we may be mired in a recession and focused on the nation’s health care debate, there is no lack of concern among Americans about the potential threat posed by a nuclear Iran.”
Among possible approaches to deal with Iran, Americans favor a combination of approaches — supporting opposition groups in Iran that are working for democracy and human rights (86%), initiating direct talks between the U.S. and Iran (76%) and expanding UN economic and diplomatic sanctions (81%).
Most interesting was the two-thirds support given by Americans to a proposal to “prevent any company doing business in the United States if that company provides Iran with refined petroleum.” [...]
Indeed, it appears that for Americans – Whether it be strong upped sanctions & possible fuel blockades; or supporting Israel if it feels the need to avert an existential Iranian nuclear threat.. The support is there and often overwhelmingly so.
As I posted previously, there are Senate & House bills proposed which allow the President to implement precisely these forms of sanctions awaiting Obama’s go ahead. They have been sitting around since April in the drawer.
Meanwhile, pressure is brought to bear on Israel as opposed to on Iran?
This has been the case for 7 months now despite the evident failures this strategy has produced. Why is the American President so divergent from the American people on these issues? What has he been waiting for?
Obama made so much of former President Bush’s inability to admit he was wrong while out on the campaign trail. Yet the not so new any longer American President shows a surprising amount of ego & arrogance when he has to date exhibited.. More of the same.
When do we get to see Mr. Gibbs stand up at the podium and tell the American people & the rest of the World that the President’s engagement strategy has to date failed, and that instead of blindly appeasing Iran; the President is going to try appeasing the American people a bit instead?
Hide the Women & Children, run for the hills..
The Obama administration and the entire American hard left may have a full conniption, General Wald – You are NOT ALLOWED to talk about these things. The talking points all state clearly that any military option will fail even though it won’t. The official line is a softening on Iran, a legitimization of the illegitimate Iranian regime and appeasement of the Mullahs. All leading to accepting what has been termed by US administrations both past & present as unacceptable: A nuclear bomb armed Iran.
As such the views of this enlightened US Air Force Four Star General need to be totally discounted immediately, everything he says is absolutely true but someone needs to tear him up a little, get some character assassination revved up or something. Eeegads I mean look at some of this stuff printed in the WSJ..
In a policy address at the Council on Foreign Relations last month, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said of Iran, “We cannot be afraid or unwilling to engage.” But the Iranian government has yet to accept President Obama’s outstretched hand. Even if Tehran suddenly acceded to talks, U.S. policy makers must prepare for the eventuality that diplomacy fails. While there has been much discussion of economic sanctions, we cannot neglect the military’s role in a Plan B.
There has been a lack of serious public discussion of the military tools available to us. Any mention of them is either met with accusations of warmongering or hushed with concerns over sharing sensitive information. It is important to discuss, within legal limits, such a serious issue as openly as possible. Discussion strengthens our democracy and dispels misinformation.
The military can play an important role in solving this complex problem without firing a single shot. Publicly signaling serious preparation for a military strike might obviate the need for one if deployments force Tehran to recognize the costs of its nuclear defiance. Mr. Obama might consider, for example, the deployment of additional carrier battle groups and minesweepers to the waters off Iran, and the conduct of military exercises with allies.
If such pressure fails to impress Iranian leadership, the U.S. Navy could move to blockade Iranian ports. A blockade—which is an act of war—would effectively cut off Iran’s gasoline imports, which constitute about one-third of its consumption. Especially in the aftermath of post-election protests, the Iranian leadership must worry about the economic dislocations and political impact of such action.
Should these measures not compel Tehran to reverse course on its nuclear program, and only after all other diplomatic avenues and economic pressures have been exhausted, the U.S. military is capable of launching a devastating attack on Iranian nuclear and military facilities.
Many policy makers and journalists dismiss the military option on the basis of a false sense of futility. They assume that the U.S. military is already overstretched, that we lack adequate intelligence about the location of covert nuclear sites, and that known sites are too heavily fortified.
Such assumptions are false. [...]
Mein Got! I say again, Shhhhhh!
There is no military option. None for Israel, none for the USA. We need to appease Iran at all costs anything less is simply uncivilized. Read the whole thing, it is frankly alarming that there are Generals retired or not still willing to speak of defending American interests with every tool in the arsenal available, diplomatic, economic or military. Off to the gallows with him. You simply are not allowed to be more Presidential than the President himself – It’s heresy.
This calls for a few goons..
Someone call Organized American Labor, rough him up a bit or something otherwise it may lead to ‘Mobs’ & ‘Townhalls’ and concerned American citizens drinking ‘Tea’ or something. Can’t have ANY of that in the era of American Hope & Short Change.
Gd Bless America, or what’s left of her for now.

President’s Standing in Israel PLUMMETS
Good news for Axelrod, Rham, Obama and the anti-Israel administration, sure to tickle Hillary too..
Only 6 percent of Jewish Israelis consider the views of American President Barack Obama’s administration pro-Israel, according to a new Jerusalem Post-sponsored Smith Research poll.
The poll, which has a margin of error of 4.5%, was conducted among a representative sample of 500 Israeli Jewish adults this week, following Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s speech in which he expressed his support for a demilitarized Palestinian state.
Another 50% of those sampled consider the policies of Obama’s administration more pro-Palestinian than pro-Israeli, and 36% said the policies were neutral. The remaining 8% did not express an opinion. [...]
Hey, you know who’s a better judge of how Pro-Israel a President is than American Jews? Israelis.
The Obama administration may have charmed American Jewry, but here in Israel his charming self has hit rock bottom in support from an ally that normally holds US presidents in extremely high esteem, because we hold America in extremely high esteem. The article mentions polling on Bush, who got an 88% pro-Israel support rate here in the holy land.
Hmmm, I’ve stated before that the US Administration is playing a dangerous game here in Israel seemingly trying to impose outrageous demands, and its own artificial peace settlement with terms that are simply unacceptable to the vast majority of Israelis. With a solid 6% support rate here in Israel, any Obama peace plan presented to Israelis for a vote will leave President Obama with the distinct honor of being the 1st American President in HISTORY to present a peace plan that is REJECTED by the vast majority of Israelis by vote!
That will also go nicely with his encyclopedia entries as the President under whose watch Iran developed Nuclear Weapons, and the other entry regarding the man who plummeted the United States of America into it worst deficits ever and bankrupted the capitalist system to the tune of trillions of dollars. A trillion dollars by the way is 1 million, millions!
Hope & Change baby
Thanks for destroying the US – Israel alliance and totally undermining Israelis confidence in the one solid ally we ever had. Nice work. Mr Obama, you are officially according to Israelis the “Worst American President Ever”. We really appreciate you shafting us in order to appease the Arab & Muslim world. Incidentally, the number of Americans polled by Rasmussen who think US / Muslim relations will stay the same or worsen next year? 63%..
Only 32% of Americans polled think US / Muslim relations will actually improve thanks to Obama’s big efforts to distort History, and apologize to the Muslim world for lord knows what any more, he’s done it so many times. (ht hotair for the Rasmussen numbers).
Let me show my personal appreciation
Incidentally, all you left-wing American Jews who gave Obama your support to the tune of 78%? Thanks a lot for undermining America, undermining Israel, and undermining the American Israel alliance, we really appreciate it. We’re especially pleased with the TOTAL silence on your part thus far as the American President tries to pressure us out of existence. Thankfully the NJDC & J-Street are mass emailing everyone to tell them how great Obama is for Israel, too bad only 6% of Israelis agree with them. You know what that makes J-Street & the NJDC? Liars.
