Target Canada: Hezbollah Terror Cell Busted in Jet Related Terror Plot

div

Local Canadian Hezbollah Operatives Active As Usual; Canadian Jews & Israelis need to be watchful

JPOST ‘Terror cell did surveillance work on El Al crews in Toronto’

The alert level has been raised for Israelis in Canada after it was discovered that a terror cell was following and carrying out surveillance on El Al crews staying in a hotel in Toronto, Channel 2 reported Wednesday.

El Al was forced to change the guidelines it issues its employees following the terror cell’s discovery.
The security establishment said that the cell appeared to be planning an attack on the Israelis and said the terrorists apparently belonged to Hizbullah.

On Tuesday, Defense Minister Ehud Barak said that in recent weeks, several kidnapping plots against Israelis abroad had been thwarted. Two weeks ago, the Counter-Terrorism Bureau in the Prime Minister Office put out a rare “general” travel warning for Israelis traveling anywhere overseas following Hizbullah’s threat to expect retaliation for February’s assassination in Damascus of arch-terrorist Imad Mughniyeh, which the Islamist group blames on Israel. [...]

Kudos to the Canadian Government and small intelligence apparatus for working deftly one hopes in conjunction with the Israeli intel system to quickly uncover and quell possible terrorist plots. Canada has a very large Lebanese ex-patriot population centered mostly on the east coast cities of Montreal & Toronto and spanning Ontario. Mostly Christian Lebanese and quite well acclimatized there’s no getting around the fact that with hundreds of thousands of immigrants coming to Canada of Lebanese & Palestinian origin, there will be extremists and radical Muslim supporters amongst the crowd.

Hezbollah has a massive support network in Montreal. The group enjoys large open public support, marches and demonstrations pulling in thousands of locals. Canadian Press has often reported on how the network is used for intelligence gathering, fund raising and terrorist purposes.

Home Of The Brave: Majority of America Backs Forceful Strikes On Iran (Updated with Biden info)

div

War On Terror: Americans not prepared to blink in the face of Radical Islamic Aggression

Americans polled share more than common values with Israeli brethren, they share serious and relatively unwavering concern regarding the Iranian nuclear threat, the majority are prepared to back Israeli allies if diplomacy stalls, or even launch American based strikes. (JPOST)

Stars & StripesThis is the kind of thing that will put wind in your sails when you are a little country surrounded by missiles, terrorists, Jihadists and now potentially cataclysmic WMD threats. Americans polled overwhelmingly viewed Iran as a serious threat to the United States of America, to the tune of 87% - Those kind of bi-partisan numbers stateside are unheard of in this age, perhaps leaving only Ron Paul supporters and far left wing quacks out of the general mix.

Prepared to do something about it too..

On the topic of taking action should diplomacy stall, again a majority of Americans polled are prepared to go the distance with 63% supporting Israeli strikes, and 55% supporting US and allied strikes if required. A whopping 80% of Americans in the poll felt that should Iran obtain nuclear weapons they would likely use them, no doubt the weekly calls for the destruction of Israel, and the chants of ‘Death to America’ have sunk into the general American public.

The threat of Iran is apparently felt across the political spectrum, with 85% of Democrats and 97% of Republicans believing the Islamic Republic represents a serious threat to the US.

Everything is just cheeky in the UK..

Germans & Brits were also polled. Germany with a historical moral obligation towards the Jewish people showed strongly unfavorable views of Iran at 64%, but our pals in Londonistan it seems only mustered 39% unfavorable views of the Islamic Republic, meaning the vast majority of Brits are prepared to go full on Dhimmi it seems. Pretty scary numbers coming out of the UK in light of the bombing & killing of Brit boys in Iraq by Iranian backed extremists, statements by top ranking UK military officials that they are fighting Iran, and a boatload of UK sailors including a young woman having been abducted at gunpoint on the high seas, and held hostage by the Iranians!?

At the end of the day, ask any US soldier in Iraq, family member of the military etc how much moral support means to them in the general public, and you can divine the powerful effect such support from allies can have for an embattled people and State such as Israel.

Update: Yossi Melman, leftist but highly respected by me analyst writes a heavy article on the Obama / Biden ticket, also looking at the popular Michael Rubin article of a few days ago..

[...] If the Obama-Biden team is elected, the combination of the new president’s inexperience in foreign policy and his vice president’s positions and record do not auger well for Israeli’s foreign and security policy, which is trying to persuade the U.S. administration that a tough policy toward Iran must be pursued - increasing the sanctions on Iran and, if necessary, as a last resort, attacking its nuclear installations.

Check it out! If Melman (bless him) is wary about the Obama / Biden ticket it means the rest of us need to run for the hills.

Dear Lebanon: You Are Cruising For An IDF Bruising

div

Have the Lebanese Totally Lost Their Minds? I Only Ask Because We Ourselves Have That ‘Crazy’ Look in Our Eyes..

After the 2006 Lebanon War, I was fairly convinced that the Olmert / Livni / Peretz duo was the ultimate culmination of weakness as we truly hit all new pinnacles of useless in that endeavour, dropping humanitarian inspired fliers on Lebanon for weeks at a time, warning people we would be coming like a bat out of hell only to never show up.. Invading a few metres here or there, dropping ‘big bombs’ left right & center like a fat guy with a fresh bowl of chili and nowhere to go..

This was truly something else, many Israelis still haven’t absorbed it all - We put the hurt on Hezbollah that’s for certain, they were yelling ‘cease fire!!’ even a few days in. But the UN Resolution before actually coming to any resolution, the US / French led diplomacy, the near total collapse of our PR & Foreign Ministry effort, the UNIFIL slap job, the faux massacres and Arab narrative which dominated the TV screens, and oy.. The 2 year long wait for two boxes containing the mutilated remains of our 2 soldiers in exchange for Samir Kuntar. It boggles the mind.

Not Even King For A Day..

Lebanon's Failed PM Siniora I would have expected a true adversary to drive home the advantage, squeeze us when we were down on the mat. If Siniora was even half a man with half a brain he would have come out of that like a rock star - Bigger than Obama! Imagine how he could have shafted Hezbollah & Israel at the same time if he had even done the bare minimum. A Speech at the UN demanding peace, demanding Hezbollah disarm, demanding Israel pay for all that ‘aggression’ he accused us of by insisting on neutering us through diplomacy.. The world would have gone bonkos, they would have thrown flowers at his feet! Like magic Rice the sucker would have moved mountains, the French would have folded in like the Vichy Government itself, Syria battered at the time would have walked away like a wounded dog. In Israel he would have galvanized the left and strapped the entire center with them, our media would be running features on his boundless vision! What a leader, if only we had leaders like that they would have said.. Hezbollah itself wouldn’t have stood a chance in the face of the world leader Siniora, nothing gets the Euro trash giddier than forcing Peace with the terrorists, they eat that stuff up.

What would it have cost him? Two boxes with the mutilated remains of our soldiers in it, and he would have been King! He could have seized the rug right out from under Hezbollah who were far from popular despite what CNN might say, he could have raised literally 50 BILLION dollars for Lebanon overnight, enough to buy his vision if needed and it wouldn’t be. The Americans would have airlifted heavy weaponry in to Lebanon that’s how hot Rice and the State Dept. were for Siniora. But Sun Tzu he ain’t. One look at how things have rolled is evidence enough of that, because not only is he not King, he’s not even the court Jester - More like the Hezbollah Page.

In our weakest moment, who would have thought the Lebanese come bearing gifts!?

Truth is Siniora is a wimp, he’s like one of those unnaturally bred chiwawas, more mouse than dog. The March 14th Cedar Revolutionaries? Nothing more than a bunch of Arabs with a fancy Wikipedia entry, push comes to shove they fold like a wet napkin. Talk about failure and they know it, which is why you don’t hear so much as peep from them. When even their ‘great victories’ are failures, I wonder if the Lebanese have truly lost their minds?

Hezbollah's leader lives in a bunker 24/7 fearing for his life The reason being they gave us a great gift. We ourselves needed a wake up call. Thank Gd it came BEFORE we take on the Hamas, before we take on Iran, and before we finally go back & kick the living daylights out the Lebanese. We’ve done it before, we chased the PLO all the way to Tunis.. That’s another CONTINENT and thanks to Siniora & CO. you can damn well bet we’re going to do it again, this time Hezbollah is going to take it right between the eyes.. Just like Mugniyeh has, just like Suleiman did last week, oh yes they are dropping like flies the Hezbollah playmakers. We’re killing them off, and Nassrallah knows that silly headpiece he wears doesn’t make for very effective camouflage, He’s a Shiite walking death row and his pal Kuntar is not far behind.

Confidence Building Measures

It’s not as if we told the Hezbollah we’d be killing them like this, ok.. So maybe we did, you got me there. It’s not as if we told them not to smuggle any more missiles, and all of a sudden Hezbollah convoys are exploding in Tehran, ok so maybe they are. But, it’s not as if Syria is trying to retake Lebanon and we shot the Chief Syrian Hezbollah Liaison in the head in broad daylight, at the ‘Russian’ port of Tartus yet - Nice touch.

It’s ‘all good’, we’re in ‘dialog’ with the Syrians.. This is how we negotiate peace. We blow up reactors, invade airspace & snap pictures, take out convoys, knock off leaders and obstacles - In the Middle East this is what we call ‘confidence building measures’..

They’re just not the confidence building measures Rice & the PLO like to talk about in roadmaps, more like building up confidence to fly across the middle east and take out Iran’s nuclear program. Now that Hezbollah is a full member of the Lebanese parliament with veto powers yet, now that their government has affirmed Hezbollah’s right for violent resistance, now that the Lebanese have voted not to disarm Hezbollah but to encourage them, this time it’s not a terrorist organization, it’s a full blown terror supporting state - So I’m feeling pretty confident myself..

‘Dear Lebanon, You Are Cruising For A Serious IDF Brusing’.

Newsweek: Ode to A Poor Arab Terrorist

div

In typical fashion, Newsweek puts up pity photos, tells life stories, never even names Jewish victims.

It’s the same old Newsweek story,  starts off with how Israel has created a new threat by building a barrier to defend against the older threat. Of course this is Israel’s fault, the poor Arabs are never to blame.. Heaven’s forbid. But this is not about barriers, that’s the cover for an unabashed sympathy play. Poor arab boy grows up, poor arab boy dreams of a better life, poor arab boy does drugs & crime, poor arab boy meets a nice arab girl, poor arab boy fathers many children, poor arab boy does yet more drugs, poor arab boy uses a multi-ton piece of construction equipment to murder Israeli Jews..

I’m torn with sympathy by this Newsweek article lamenting the poor terrible status of Jerusalem’s Arabs - Forced to do demeaning things like have gainful employment and work for Jews, freedom to move about, access to holy places.. Oh the horrors of it all.

Poor little Arab boy 1st meets nice Jewish girl, fathers a child, does drugs, beats her up.. This is explained away by newsweek as sometimes he got jealous, it’s all perfectly acceptable, what’s wrong here is the oppression by the Jews. The poor Arab boy is 200,000 dollars in debt, not because he’s a criminal wife beater drug addict, but because the Jews have imposed fines on him for building a home without permits, yet ANOTHER illegal act all blithely explained away by poor Arab boy sympathy, forget all his sordid history this man is also a mass murderer.

He dropped out of school after eighth grade and eventually met a young Israeli woman who worked at the same restaurant. The young man experimented with drugs and fathered a child with her. When he got jealous, sometimes he hit her. She finally had him arrested, and he did time in an Israeli prison. [...]

Jamilla Dweiat, Hussam’s widow, can’t understand why Israel would punish her and her sons by tearing down their house. She worries about it daily and, to pass the quiet evenings, occasionally tunes in to “Noor,” that Turkish soap opera. But the good life now seems so unattainable that she finds herself weeping as she watches. During her interview with NEWSWEEK, a team of stolid Israeli officials arrived at her house and walked around—taking measurements for the demolition, she assumed. As the men strode through the halls, Jamilla bit her lip and hugged her belly. The day her husband killed and died, she learned she was pregnant again.

He ‘experimented’ with drugs, when you do drugs your whole life as his own father attested to in Israeli media, you are not experimenting, you are a drug addict. When you engage in criminal activities your whole life as his neighbors attested to in Israeli media you are criminal, not someone who ‘experiments’ with crime. When you murder Israelis with construction equipment to sow terror you are a terrorist and a murderer and your house gets torn down, period. This little turd who fathers children, takes no responsibility, is a waste of a life is given the full sympathy play.. Complete with artsy black & white photos for effect. This is not Journalism, it’s art after all.

Well, I have no sympathy.. My sympathy are for the Jews he murdered, they didn’t get any pictures in Newsweek, the orphaned child - His Jewish mother crushed to death while her last act was saving her baby gets no mention in the Newsweek. The Left’s obsession with the noble Arab savage, the endless sympathy, apology for wretched refuse, it’s the same old story. I have news for Jerusalem’s ‘poor’ Arabs, they better smarten up right quick. Israeli blue citizenship cards are a privilege not a sympathy play. Here today, gone tomorrow - Just like this drug addict convict and later terrorist’s illegally built house.

Mission Critical: Gaza must reset the bar for the IDF

div

Israel must go ‘all in’ & restore deterrence

It is now accepted as inevitable, a large scale operation in the Gaza strip to end the terror threat emanating from Gazastan 24/7. Even internationally little can be said, we are a democratic country with a terror operated mini state lobbing missiles at our civilian populace with no end, if the peace process is to go forward the government in Israel has no choice but to tackle the hornets nest. The failures leading up to now are numerous.

  • Withdrawal from Gaza promised the harshest response possible to terror threats emanating from vacated territory. That never happened.

  • Rice & the EU assured us that ceding border control at the Philadelphia corridor linking Egypt, Gaza & Israel would be a stepping stone to peace & security. We got neither, and Hamas is now armed to the teeth with a standing army thanks to the collapse of the EU initiative resulting in rampant arms smuggling, the lack of speedy response from Rice & the US, the faltering ally in Egypt and our government’s foolhardy fold to the initial pressure.

  • Hamas being allowed to run for PA elections despite being a recognized terrorist group, only to win further weakening the overall global US strategy for the region & Israel specifically by acquiescing to this ludicrous notion.

  • Hamas seizing the Gaza strip by force and setting up a mini terror state with nary a reaction by the world and shamefully muted reaction by the Israeli govt. compounded by an increase in violence & terrorism.

  • The kidnapping of IDF soldiers in terrorist assaults, and subsequently years of manipulation by the same terrorists holding his life in the balance. This is well below the norms of accepted humanity yet the UN, NGOs, and public opinion seem resolute as ever to declare Israel the war criminal.

A clear path of support linking Hamas, Syria, Iran, and Hezbollah has materialized and the planet in a supposed global War on Terror has not even bat an eye. This web extends all the way into Lebanon and Iraq and further through the Revolutionary Guards all the way even into Afghanistan bridging towards Al Qaeda - these regions making up the main battlefield in the war against Islamist Jihad. Despite the global pitch to deny sanctuary & national territory to terrorists, seemingly in Gaza this is a supported goal internationally.

These realities are a failure on Israel’s part by orders of magnitude..

Lebanon’s long shadow

The political failures above are the domain of the government, the IDF & security establishment can make an argument that they warned every step of the way. Unfortunately, political missteps also led to the employment of the IDF in Lebanon on a large scale and the results were lackluster. A serious blow was dealt to the IDF and Israel’s deterrence by stagnation on the battlefield. We have been assured that our military has taken these issues to heart, reformed itself of its lack of vision, begun investment in its equipment and infrastructure in the tefen plan, replaced key personnel and philosophies with lessons learned, and renewed its desire to regain a perch amongst the most capable in the world.

A key component of Israel’s lack of gusto in Lebanon vs Hezbollah was our apparent lack of deftness and agility, combined with an equally lacking ability to employ heavy force in strategic spots and chalk up gains which could be built on for momentum. Both the political & military echelon appeared hesitant to employ strong tactics and commit to getting whatever the job be, done.

You bastards..

Already we have seen the reforms in action regarding deftness and agility through the combined us of intelligence and force - Skillfully I would add, through high risk / high payoff operations designed to further national security policy while also providing the spin-off benefit of restoring deterrence.

  • IDF soldiers driving donkey parts deep into Hamas territory and smuggling out Hamas terrorists for interrogation comes to mind.

  • The veil of silence and skillful bombing of a dangerous target in Syria, something which garnered nearly zero condemnation incidentally. If anything.. Begrudging respect of the type not seen since Entebbe.

  • The associated employment of high technologies in the manner expected by the IDF sending a loud & clear message with a huge payoff, the apparent knocking out of the entire Syrian air defense net to such an extent that Russian technicians were on the scene within 48 hours to investigate how such a feat were even possible, causing palpable alarm all the way into Iran with billions of dollars invested & at stake.

  • The vast reduction in civilian collateral casualties through pin point accuracy employed by the IAF, I don’t recall the exact statistic but it is on the order of a 99% reduction in civilian losses through operations. No small investment or effort was made over the last few years to tune the machine to a level where this was possible. The payoff obviously being lives saved combined with some possible leeway in employing force as a matter of security, not too mention the resulting accuracy of force - as exhibited in Syria is of a calibre that sets a worldwide scale.

  • The targeted elimination of Hezbollah chieftains deep in their protective territory is no small matter either, let alone the fact that such an individual be amongst the most hunted men on earth. This one is the slot machine that will keep on paying for a long time to come.

These examples of very special operations have gone a long way, but Gaza will be the test of mettle for the IDF. Gaza requires all the tools & skills above, combined with scale and regular more conventional forces. Gaza means dangerous contact in close quarters with a terrorist / guerrilla trained enemy built up in territory and capabilities, and Gaza requires a political / diplomatic component that is in itself complex. Israel and the IDF can ill afford any half efforts. All eyes are on this one, there is something to prove.

I’m looking at how the IDF can take Gaza, decapitate the Hamas leadership, quell the terrorist infrastructure, as well-as the necessary political dynamic in a second part to this post.

Snip: Mid East Telecom cables may have been sabotaged

div

A few weeks ago something strange started happening to main trunks of connectivity linking the Middle East & Asia to the rest of the world via undersea cables, one by one over the short period of a few days main cables from a number of companies failed due to cuts in the seabed lines. India, and Egypt in particular were affected by the outages and a scramble was on to dispatch ships & repair crews to fix the cuts.

Today’s bandwidth hungry users flush with video & communications needs got a taste of the major slowdowns & connectivity problems associated with over saturated use.. Highlighting the importance of maintaining integrity over communication infrastructure as fastidiously as we guard more ‘concrete’ examples of infrastructure in these security conscious times.

Theories

The initial reaction was ”from ship anchors” - But theories ranged all the way up to intelligence agencies snipping the wires in order to insert listening technologies inside. The fairly targeted zone combined with a rapid loss of cables going out one after the other raised suspicions of sabotage or possibly terrorism as motives. Lo and behold the official UN agency now investigating is saying that sabotage or terrorism are not to be ruled out:

Saboteurs may have cut Mideast telecom cables: UN agency (breitbart)

Damage to several undersea telecom cables that caused outages across the Middle East and Asia could have been an act of sabotage, the International Telecommunication Union said on Monday.
“We do not want to preempt the results of ongoing investigations, but we do not rule out that a deliberate act of sabotage caused the damage to the undersea cables over two weeks ago,” the UN agency’s head of development, Sami al-Murshed, told AFP.

Five undersea cables were damaged in late January and early February leading to disruption to Internet and telephone services in parts of the Middle East and south Asia. [...]

These days cyber warfare plays just as much an integral part of the war on terror & crime as good old fashioned guns do, the Islamic Jihad for instance has made cyberspace a key battlefield to own. So who’s targeting critical telecom infrastructure under the sea and why? All part of the latest battlefield in the communication wars perhaps.

*Incidentally, as is the case generally with our Arab & Muslim friends, they don’t like to share things with Israel.. In this case Israeli connectivity was not affected as we are forced to operate on one of two main separate lines that we not affected or sliced, which link us to Europe & beyond.

FBI Most Wanted: Arch Terrorist Mugniyeh Blown to Shreds in Blast!!! (updated)

div

7 days of celebration baby

Less known than Bin Laden but much more lethal. The Hizbullah / Iran master terrorist is apparently dead today. Co-founder of Hizbullah, believed to have invented the suicide truck bomb as a tool of carnage, believed responsible in the planning of the slaughter of US Marines / French troops in Lebanon, hunted for over 20 years internationally as a mastermind of terror, believed to have undergone reconstructive facial surgery to mask his face.. If it’s true it’s a massive blow in the war on Terror! (I only question the authenticity slightly due to the massive efforts of deception Imad was famous for.)

JPOST: Damascus bombing kills Hizbullah No. 2‘Mughniyeh was co-founder of Hizbullah’ ; Israel denies involvement in Mughniyeh assassination

USA Today
CNN
Imad search here at the hashmonean.

Glorious news really, there’s just no other way to put it. Kudos to whomever found him & blew him up car bomb style, something he so richly deserved. Man I hope we did it.. But if the Americans got him, that would be sweeeeet too! :)

The side note: Damascus now in the hot seat, knowingly sheltering arch terrorists within its loving embrace. Maybe Pelosi or Obama should jet out there so we can all talk it over and make a few more concessions? “Yes we can!” <– Preferably elect someone who can actually protect freedom as opposed to delivering fancy speeches full of sweet nothings.

Update / Hat Tip:
 Debbie Schlussel via Hotair comments

Obama’s senior foreign policy advisor is INDEED there in Syria already! Oh the irony, what a slap in the face to the foolhardy Obama strategy of “engaging” the Jihad in dialog..

Update II: Fallout - Bush orders expanded sanctions on Syria & Officials (Reuters)

Obstensibly related to Iraq, but the timing smells a heck of a lot like the side note up there and a hearty ’you bastards had an arch terrorist planning, baseing & operating openly within your borders and now you’re gonna pay, er at least a little bit’. I’m thinking this is only the 1st round of pain Syria will face due to having Imad liquidated in their capital Damascus, hey what I can say other than “you’re either with us or the terrorists.”

Pounding Israel: 118 Qassam rockets and 62 Mortars from Gaza in 48hrs

div

Annapolis be damned. Defend the State!

The city of Sderot is being strangled by terrorists, less than 28% of the population remaining is attending school from fear. That’s of what’s left, because mass amounts of the city have simply picked up & moved. This is a travesty, these are not occupied territories for the intl. community to salivate over, there are no excuses - This is an assault on the land of Israel across its borders. How many more red lines will be crossed by the Kadima coalition?

Hamas is upgrading.. Again. (Haaretz)

  • Capable of long term storage of missiles
  • Ashkelon in rocket sights
  • Launching rockets remotely from underground!?

Pull the coalition down now

This is out of control, we cannot have a terrorist state on Israel’s borders acting with impunity like this, it is contrary to every policy, every sacrifice made by the country since its inception 60 years ago. This government is the biggest failure in Israeli history. Defend the State of Israel or resign. That goes for Barack too, that military swagger does not excuse from the task of defending this country, stop vacillating and give the order to assault Gaza or go home.

We don’t need another Peretz Defense Minister, I can’t speak for anyone else but I’m getting tired of these Labor Party Defense Ministers, since their arrival we are indeed always on Defense.. and losing. When Shaul Mofaz was Defense Minister under the Likud the terrorists hid underground, now they build bunkers to fire & hide their rockets underground. That is the Kadima legacy so far, our enemies getting exponentially stronger thriving on our weakness.

Hamas paying the price: Al Zahar’s son killed in anti-terror operations

div

Hamas Senior Minister Mahmud Al-Zahar Hamas ‘Foreign Minister’ pays personal price for violence, terrorism.

Violence, and targeted anti-qassam operations have swept the strip this past two days leaving 17 Palestinians killed, most of them militants including Mahmud Al Zahar’s son, the second in command behind deposed PM Haniyeh who vowed Hamas would respond..

Gaza: Mahmoud al-Zahar’s son, 16 others killed by IDF (Ynet)

[...]
Al-Zahar accused the moderate Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas of the rival Fatah movement, of complicity in his son’s death. “This is the hope of Abu Mazen and his colleagues, the collaborators with Israel and the spies of America,” Zahar said, referring to Abbas by his nickname. Hamas, he vowed, will respond to Tuesday’s raid “in the appropriate way. We will defend ourselves by all means.”

Another al-Zahar son was killed in a botched Israeli assassination attempt against the elder al-Zahar in his home three years ago. [...]

No one ever takes responsibility in the Jihadi world, this one’s Abu Mazen & America’s fault by some intense form of Hamasnian logic.. In Either case, he’s payed a heavy price for extolling the virtues of martyrdom, it will only get worse for Hamas members & leaders when we assault Gaza fully & dismantle the large military they’ve raised. As usual, that large scale operation is delayed for now to bolster the Annapolis talks, which won’t bring back the young Ecuadorian Israeli volunteer shot to death on a kibbutz near Gaza by a Palestinian sniper this morning.

Sniper attack on kibbutz volunteer

In the course of the fighting, a Palestinian sniper fired from the border area into Israel, killing 20-year-old Carlos Andres Chavez, a volunteer from Ecuador who was working in a potato field at the Ein Hashlosha kibbutz, Israeli officials said. Hamas’ military wing claimed responsibility.

“The shooting of the Ecuadorian youth demonstrates the necessity of the defensive measures the military is carrying out with pinpoint operations,” Israeli military spokeswoman Maj. Avital Leibovich said. Israel has been cracking down on Gaza militants who bombard southern Israel with rockets and mortars and attack troops along the border, even as it seeks peace with Abbas’ West Bank-based government. [...]
