President’s Standing in Israel PLUMMETS
Good news for Axelrod, Rham, Obama and the anti-Israel administration, sure to tickle Hillary too..
Only 6 percent of Jewish Israelis consider the views of American President Barack Obama’s administration pro-Israel, according to a new Jerusalem Post-sponsored Smith Research poll.
The poll, which has a margin of error of 4.5%, was conducted among a representative sample of 500 Israeli Jewish adults this week, following Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s speech in which he expressed his support for a demilitarized Palestinian state.
Another 50% of those sampled consider the policies of Obama’s administration more pro-Palestinian than pro-Israeli, and 36% said the policies were neutral. The remaining 8% did not express an opinion. [...]
Hey, you know who’s a better judge of how Pro-Israel a President is than American Jews? Israelis.
The Obama administration may have charmed American Jewry, but here in Israel his charming self has hit rock bottom in support from an ally that normally holds US presidents in extremely high esteem, because we hold America in extremely high esteem. The article mentions polling on Bush, who got an 88% pro-Israel support rate here in the holy land.
Hmmm, I’ve stated before that the US Administration is playing a dangerous game here in Israel seemingly trying to impose outrageous demands, and its own artificial peace settlement with terms that are simply unacceptable to the vast majority of Israelis. With a solid 6% support rate here in Israel, any Obama peace plan presented to Israelis for a vote will leave President Obama with the distinct honor of being the 1st American President in HISTORY to present a peace plan that is REJECTED by the vast majority of Israelis by vote!
That will also go nicely with his encyclopedia entries as the President under whose watch Iran developed Nuclear Weapons, and the other entry regarding the man who plummeted the United States of America into it worst deficits ever and bankrupted the capitalist system to the tune of trillions of dollars. A trillion dollars by the way is 1 million, millions!
Hope & Change baby
Thanks for destroying the US – Israel alliance and totally undermining Israelis confidence in the one solid ally we ever had. Nice work. Mr Obama, you are officially according to Israelis the “Worst American President Ever”. We really appreciate you shafting us in order to appease the Arab & Muslim world. Incidentally, the number of Americans polled by Rasmussen who think US / Muslim relations will stay the same or worsen next year? 63%..
Only 32% of Americans polled think US / Muslim relations will actually improve thanks to Obama’s big efforts to distort History, and apologize to the Muslim world for lord knows what any more, he’s done it so many times. (ht hotair for the Rasmussen numbers).
Let me show my personal appreciation
Incidentally, all you left-wing American Jews who gave Obama your support to the tune of 78%? Thanks a lot for undermining America, undermining Israel, and undermining the American Israel alliance, we really appreciate it. We’re especially pleased with the TOTAL silence on your part thus far as the American President tries to pressure us out of existence. Thankfully the NJDC & J-Street are mass emailing everyone to tell them how great Obama is for Israel, too bad only 6% of Israelis agree with them. You know what that makes J-Street & the NJDC? Liars.
Is it safe to put all this brainpower in one spot?
Are you wondering what I’m rambling about? I’m rambling about Contentions, and in a few paragraphs I’ll be rambling about two of its contenders specifically - Jennifer Rubin & Rick Richman.
Before I do I want to establish a few odd things. For instance, I’ve never seen American Idol. Nor does the current Israeli wave of reality TV even hold the most remote sense of draw for me. Without meaning to insult, I consider these things glorified stupidity. Ironic since I have no qualms whatsoever engaging in occasional stupidity myself. I watch C-Span, those cheeky monkeys now have three channels so I am steadily convincing myself I get a lot of variety in my viewing, sometimes its good to lie to yourself. Instead of all that TV I read a lot.
Secondly, I like Wyoming. I’ve never been to Wyoming, I don’t even know anything about Wyoming – Except that Dick Cheney comes from Wyoming so Wyoming is awesome. I also like Commentary magazine, so if you shock me and tell me John Podhoretz is also from Wyoming, I may have to move there. But, to be clear I am not moving from Israel unless it is to live with Dick Cheney & John Podhoretz in Wyoming, and in light of the fact that I am dubious about Podhoretz coming from Wyoming it means I can thankfully stay in Israel for now.
Yes, I am a Neo-Con.
Ooooh, scary. I have always been a Neo-Con. I think Bill Kristol is charming and if I ever got a tattoo it would read AEI. My two favorite words are National & Security and my least favorite current word is Obama. In fact, I believe that President Obama is himself a glorified reality TV show, complete with scripts, cameras & his very own producers. He is in my opinion, glorified stupidity that millions upon millions of people tune into daily, they even buy the products! It doesn’t hurt my theory that his administration liberally borrows from and perhaps even believes they are enacting the West Wing TV Show incidentally..
I’m getting there, stop pestering me.
With that established, I want to talk about Commentary’s blog Contentions. It’s really good. There are some fine writers there, even Rosner is all right and this is a big concession for me because I live not too far from the Haaretz building in Tel Aviv, and whenever I pass it I feel a chill go through me as if editorial evil itself might be emanating from within. Clearly, if Obama were to happen to visit the Haaretz building for filming his latest episode and I were in the vicinity my head might explode. Thankfully there’s a good chance his TV show cameras would be there so ratings that night would be blockbuster. Hey! Anything I can do to help buddy.
As I was saying before you interrupted me, Contentions is really very very good. But two of its bloggers specifically have been astounding me. I am not easily astounded, there’s a lot of crap in the blogosphere and that includes the Jblogosphere too and some of it happens to lead the way in visitors, making this for me overall a poor metric of quality. For myself, quality is measured by how often I visit a place to read, I could care less where other people are visiting in all honesty. It is rare indeed for me to consistently finish reading something a blogger or writer has written and then say – Wow, you know what? That is really really good, it is factual, insightful, well argued and well written.
So you can imagine my surprise when I first started noticing this occurring frequently in very specific cases I think it was last year. I kept finishing reading things thinking those very thoughts, and since suffering information overload I would only bother actually seeing who wrote it at the end (that statement is sure to thrill many many bloggers!).
Jennifer Rubin, and then Jennifer Rubin, and again Jennifer Rubin until I stopped and said - Who the hell is Jennifer Rubin? How come I’ve never heard of this woman before!? I’m not a stupid guy, and this is evidenced by the fact that this Jennifer Rubin is now everywhere, yes.. I even saw her on C-Span.
Now, in time I know who Jennifer Rubin is superficially, but this was formative for me in general regarding blogging and what I read. There was a big span of time for instance when I stopped reading PJM entirely because quality was way down (apart from Ledeen who was sporadic, and Fernandez whom I just like and a few others), but I started visiting again more frequently because I wanted to read some Rubin.
I may be mistaken having read literally thousands of blog posts, but I think that’s where I first read another writer’s posts, this guy Richman. if not, it doesn’t really matter because it makes for a decent segueway nonetheless. Back at Contentions which was now firmly in my reading column albeit selectively, I started noticing this same phenomenon that occurred with Rubin, except the name was Richman? Confused yet? Good.
I was saying to myself, hey.. That’s pretty good, well written, good argument etc. Once again, I could be bothered to notice who was writing, Richman. Oh Rick Richman wrote this, ah that figures.. Hey, that’s pretty good (scrolling back up) oh, yeah it’s Rick Richman.
So now I find myself exactly where I was previously, wondering ‘who the hell is this guy’ and how come I’ve never heard of him before? There are other really good writers at Contentions overall as well.
Is it safe to gather all this really good stuff at one spot? We need these tools going forward to fight the good fight. As stated before I learned to think strategically from Dick Cheney.. Maybe we should move some of them to Wyoming? You know.. Just to be safe.
I’ll be away from my blog for the weekend, traveling in Israel. But I thought why not leave something amusing to read and a pointer to more good stuff beyond the usual links to other bloggers my little cadre of readers already know well. Try Contentions, you might like it..
I slotted this as humor, but it is more imbued with some sarcasm and some amusement than super funny. Oh well. I blame Obama.
The Hits Just Keep on Coming!
Not satisfied with the massive concession by Israel’s elected government to accept a two state solution and a 95% halt to all settlements President Obama has more demands. Now despite the fact that humanitarian aid is constantly flowing the newest & latest pressure gambit is to open up Gaza’s crossings. Of course it is.. Never mind that the Hamas isolation policy is Quartet policy, American policy, Israeli policy. There’s a new sherif.. er weakling in town, President Obama.
With the EU now openly seeking to legitimize Hamas, former President Carter (Obama’s ideological mentor? or mental case? you decide.) holding back tears, what else is to be expected? Sec. Clinton didn’t waste time re-stating that Israel’s concessions on these matters were not sufficient..
Clinton reiterated that the U.S. viewed a total settlement freeze as “important and essential” step toward achieving peace between Israel and the Palestinians.
She said that special Mideast envoy George Mitchell would look at a “number of critical concerns” regarding settlements.
“There are a number of critical concerns, many of which overlap in their impact and significance, that will be explored in the coming weeks as Senator Mitchell engages more deeply into the specifics as to where the Israelis and the Palestinians are willing to go together.”
Clinton also said that Israeli leaders have in the past shifted their stance on the issue, and expected the current government to evolve in the same fashion.
The more concessions we give the worse it is going to get. FM Lieberman meanwhile who was meeting with Sec of State Clinton maintained what can now only be described after Netanyahu’s speech as clear Israeli policy. No expansion of settlements but growth inside our territory and existing community boundaries will continue. It doesn’t appear to be enough, now we need to concede a state, concede settlements, concede to the Hamas terrorists.. Soon it will be concede Jerusalem, concede to refugees. This will never end. For what!?
Clinton noted that previous Prime Ministers changed their views over the years, implying we should cave to the demands. Clearly the massive concession to accept a PA state by Netanyahu brought us nothing, but more demands.
It is time to stop worrying about what Obama thinks Or what Obama says, or what Obama does. His plan to squeeze us will proceed regardless of what we do irrespective of how much we comply. There has been total silence from Washington over the never ending statements of total rejection to his plans from the Arab world, on the total rejection for peace.. This is not about peace it is about caving to Arab demands – I’m not sure whether it is because Obama is an Arabist, or just a naive fool. But either way the strategy of clearly stating NO and demanding concessions from the other side seems to be working wonders for the Palestinians & Arabs. We should adopt it wholeheartedly.
Where are the Hamas concessions?
Has Hamas renounced violence, recognized the Jewish Israeli State? Met PA commitments? No, the PA itself, our peace partners have not even met these conditions.. Meanwhile Gilad Shalit is now 3 years in captivity with Hamas terrorists. It’s time to tell the President of the United States to go fly a kite. I don’t care any longer about over flights to Iran, or the dangling of possible future sanctions against Tehran, it’s all bull. We will be left hanging by this administration in the end. We will also be left hanging by our friends in the US Congress & Senate.
There is only one answer to all these demands from here on in. Sorry, but No. They are going to blame Israel in any case, better to be blamed and keep our concessions than to be blamed and haven given gifts that can never be reclaimed.
Soft & Hard Kill: Next Gen ‘Iron Fist’ Active Protection System Headed For Deployment on Israeli Namer APCs (Video)
The Future is Now..
Israel continues to be a world leader in force protection. Details the last few months have been emerging that Iron Fist, our next generation APS to protect light & medium armored vehicles from RPGs, missiles, and even perhaps tank fired rounds is headed for deployment shortly. Israel is already a leader in the field with the Raphael developed and now seeing deployment to Merkava Mark 4 (and soon to be retrofitted to earlier versions of the tank) Trophy system.
The Trophy made world wide headlines with its ability to create what is described as a ‘virtual shield’ around the armored heavy vehicle, intercepting shaped charge penetrating hand held RPG rounds such as the Russian RPG 7 & RPG9 Vampyr. These weapons are in the hands of terror sponsoring nations & have been proliferated to terrorists & insurgents across the Middle East. These advanced penetrators have taken their toll on both Israeli Armor in Lebanon as well as American vehicles in Iraq and Afghanistan. Next to IED road side bombs, this is the number one threat and killer of US Servicemen in these conflicts.
While there is some overlap with Trophy, the Iron Fist was designed to protect lighter vehicles. It will be able to be fitted to troop movers like APCs and even lighter vehicles like the Humvee or supply trucks, providing protection against a larger number of threats beyond the RPG & anti tank missile..
Jane’s Defense: [...] in addition to the threat posed by hand-held anti-tank weapons and anti-tank guided missiles, Iron Fist is also being developed to counter high-velocity, long-rod penetrators fired by tank guns and to combat soft- as well as hard-kill anti-tank guided missiles. Moreover, it is also being developed to provide a basis for greater situation awareness and, consequently, for effective counter-fire against threat launchers.
Like other APSs, Iron Fist incorporates radar for threat detection and tracking. Its radar system has been developed by the Elta subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries, which has also developed the radar of the Rafael Trophy APS already in low-rate initial production for the Merkava Mk 4 tanks. The system includes four flat-panel antennas, which between them not only cover 360 degrees in azimuth but provide what is virtually a hemispherical coverage.
That’s fancy for front, rear, side & top protection from threats, fairly stunning. All this activity takes place in milliseconds with the system detecting & launching its interceptor which does not seek to detonate the incoming threat, but rather deflect it without its detonation reducing collateral damage to soldiers in, on, or around the vehicle. Think of the gunners on light vehicles like APCs or Humvees and the soldiers whom are often found around the vehicles using them as cover during movement & assault.
Defense-Update: Unlike other systems, the Iron Fist uses only the blast effect to defeat the threat, crushing the soft components of a shaped charge or deflecting and destabilizing the missile or kinetic rod in their flight. The interceptor is made of combustible envelope, fully consumed in the explosion. Without the risk of shrapnel, Iron Fist provides an effective, close-in protection for vehicles operating in dense, urban environment. The use of close proximity, rather than “hit to kill” mechanism avoids complex interception techniques and contributes to reduced cost.
One of the main advantages of the Iron Fist is its integration into routine operations. Its sensor provides essential input to situational awareness systems, based on ground radar surveillance, moving target detection, classification and tracking and motion detection. Furthermore, by loading other types of projectiles, such as non lethal, anti-personnel, smoke or illumination, the system can be used in support of routine operation.
This week comments by the IDF indicate that Iron Fist is headed for deployment to Israel’s newest NAMER (Tiger) APCs which are based on the Merkava Mark 4. This Discovery Channel Future Weapons video below gives an amazing overview of the system, and a beautiful look at its employment on a Namer.. Just one of dozens of examples of how Israeli technologies have and going forward will contribute and be employed safeguarding IDF troops and those of Israel’s allies.
Coup D’etat: The Revolutionary Guards In Control of Iran Had Nothing to Fear From Obama Biden (OP-ED Update II)
Last night I was struck by the fact that one of the net’s top bloggers Allahpundit, who’s stellar coverage of Iran at Hotair has been remarkable struggled to wrap his head around what in reality is going on in Iran like much of the West in general.
On the surface, none of what is going for many American minds makes much sense. If the Theocracy controls Iran, hand picks the candidates, and already resisted a ‘reformist’ presidency previously without much difficulty why is the Supreme Leader so invested in Ahmadinejad. Yesterday in two of his amazing posts on the issue he asked himself and readers that very question twice.. It is an excellent question.
Why is Khamenei so invested in an Ahmadinejad victory?
As a frequent commenter at HotAir I responded to the query, but it is so vitally important to understanding these events that it deserves some expounding. By the same token, the answer sheds some light as to why the entire American administration is seemingly equally clueless & impotent regarding events in Iran in general, and why the Americans are now failing miserably with their new Hope & Change strategy and engagement policy. A strategy which has now been thoroughly shredded, despite the fact that Obama, Hillary & CO. are living in convenient denial.
The initial Revolution has undergone Evolution
The answer is simple enough if one understands Iran in its current incarnation. The Theocracy is invested in Ahmadinejad because the Revolutionary Guard are invested in Iran. When I say invested I mean literally and figuratively. Over the last number of years the Revolutionary Guards have instituted a near full takeover of Iran. Wielding incredible power internally they have utilized Iran’s great wealth and their positions as the upper crust of Iranian society or access to it, to seize power across the board. The relationship between the guards & Khameni is symbiotic, as much as the Guards need Khameni, the Supreme Leader needs the guards.
Netanyahu calls for 2 states
Will the Americans finally be satisfied? Netanyahu called for a 2 state solution for 2 peoples, the chief American demand of Israel – But stressed that critical limits must be placed on Palestinian autonomy, that it cannot be business as usual as with other states in the world. Limits to borders and security, demilitarized, etc. Stressing the need to recognize Israel as A Jewish state before progress can be made.
Netanyahu also stressed in the most applauded section of the speech that Israel, the land of Israel is our birthright & spent time laying out history in stark contrast to Obama’s speech in Cairo which was filled with whimsical poetry, but dangerously disregarded reality & history. He went directly at & challenged Obama’s message stressing the Holocaust as cause for the birth of Israel, stressing instead our longing and ties to the land for the length of Jewish history.
Regarding settlements, Bibi stressed that Israel will not expand borders of settlements or impinge on Palestinian lands but did not call for halts to construction within Israeli settlements. Our rights cannot be simply steamrolled thankfully, and initial statements from the right wing & settler movement have been somewhat supportive (keep in mind this is within a few minutes of the speech), there might be other voices and opinions raised shortly. Despite that, it was a solid speech.
Jersusalem, Refugees off the table
No negotiation of Israel’s unified capital, no refugees to return to Israel in the pursuit of peace. He did call for the Arab world to join in the task of building peace, especially to build a joint economic foundation for peace. He similarly to other PMs (most famously Golda Meir) stated his willingness to travel to any Arab country, any Arab capital in the pursuit of peace and invited Arab leaders to Jerusalem for talks with Israel any time.
On the whole, he presented like Obama a vision for peace, but one which unlike the American vision takes into account Israel’s views & needs and not only the Arab demands. This was not a work plan, but a statement of Israeli principles. On the whole it was a good speech, I felt emotion when Netanyahu spoke of Israeli history & sacrifice and by the same token he stressed we are willing to make more sacrifices for peace, things that no other nation would do or expect for peace.. Such is the Jewish people’s desire to live in peace & security with the Arab world.
The Palestinians as normal, as usual for the last 60 years time & again (another detail not acknowledged by the Obama administration to date) have already rejected Netanyahu’s words & call for peace to move forward.. Stating we will have to wait 1000 years for peace negotiations if their demands are not met. Typical.
