Stalwart Allies: Obama Admin Has Frozen Arms Sales; No More Apache Longbows for Israel?

‘Words must mean something..’

The luster is off, many of my more elite fellow bloggers on US / Israeli relations are coming to grips with the unfriendly atmosphere now prevailing in what President Obama just yesterday termed a ‘stalwart alliance’ between Israel & the US. Blah blah blah, just words. This President is a talker all right, on the topic of whether or not he’s a doer however it is becoming ever more clear that he reserves action only for Israel, everyone else gets a free pass.

Obama Strikes Again – Requests for replacement choppers in limbo

WASHINGTON – The Obama administration has blocked Israel’s request for advanced U.S.-origin attack helicopters.

Government sources said the administration has held up Israel’s request for the AH-64D Apache Longbow attack helicopter. The sources said the request was undergoing an interagency review to determine whether additional Longbow helicopters would threaten Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip. [...]

Yeah, we know. Drastically reduced cooperation, ignoring existential threats, reaching out to America’s enemies at the expense of her allies. All part of the pressure gambit to wring concessions out of Israel to pay off the Muslim outreach program, which so far appears to be the only thing (other than spending trillions of dollars of debt) the President seems to actually care about.

JSF / F15SE / Apache Longbow – What’s next?

IDF Apaches in formation

IDF Apaches in formation

The list of off limits hardware is growing, now the Apache Longbows have been added despite the fact Israel already flies them. Since most of the F35 JSF is already off limits to us, the new Boeing F15SE has been sought as a possible option by Israel  – But that is also seemingly not in the cards. The F15SE was designed by Boeing specifically for export because it has no slot in US defense plans since its missions are already covered by other platforms, it is an upgrade path for international customers flying Eagles. Which makes statements by the Administration to the effect that the F15SE is not cleared for ‘foreign military sales’ curious indeed..

WASHINGTON – The Obama administration has imposed obstacles on Israeli efforts to procure U.S.-origin fighter-jets.

Administration sources said the White House has drafted measures that could prevent Israel and other non-NATO allies from procuring U.S. fighter-jets, including the F-35. They said the administration would require that Israel obtain special permission from the Defense Department and State Department to acquire the Joint Strike Fighter. The administration has also been resisting Israeli requests for technical data on the new F-15SE fighter-jet. [...]

The sources said the State Department has been delaying Israeli requests for pre-export licenses required for an examination of the new generation F-15.

The sources said the administration has not approved the new F-15 for the Foreign Military Sales program. They said this could prevent Israel from using U.S. military aid to purchase the aircraft from Boeing. “This is a legal issue,” a source said. “The F-15SE might not qualify for FMS.”

Stalwart allies. We are not even allowed to evaluate the Boeing fighter! Boeing must be thrilled with the Obama administration’s stimulus efforts so far since the Apaches & F-15s are part of the company’s stable of military hardware. I’m still wrestling with how the math for this works but I’m guessing Robert Gibbs will soon tell us that halting all these sales from Boeing to Israel is good for the company’s bottom line in the recession and will ‘create jobs’.

The noose is around Israel’s neck and is tightening while Obama courts and appeases his one true love, the Arabs & the Palestinians and every dictator, socialist, and isolated rogue regime on the planet. This is change all right, everything else is ‘just words’.

This is pretty frightening.  Like, I feel sick, it’s that frightening.

  • Man of Honor

Found you guys through Ace of Spades HQ (they have you on the sidebar).

Let me tell you, Obama is making me angry enough to want to move to Israel and join the IDF.

  • R. Sherman

There may be some internal Democrat push-back on this decision. Obama cannot afford to lose the Democrat contingent from Missouri where all the Boeing military stuff, i.e. former McDonnell-Douglas, is manufactured.

    We can only hope.

Don’t be surprised if he does not turn around and buy the shit that Israel needs from Boeing and donate it to the Palestinians.  I’m not joking either, he will come out and say he just created 200 new jobs by doing this and the press will ejaculate all over themselves  for it and ignore everything else.

Yes- N Korea has the bomb and Iran’s gonna have the bomb soon and China holds all our debt- BUT ISRAEL IS THE REAL PROBLEM. Yeah. Change we can believe in.

Look everyone, the guy’s a flaming Marxist assh***. HE DOESN’T VALUE WESTERN CIVILIZATION and in fact finds it to be the most abhorrent phenomenon of human history. In any conflict, the side that represents the more naked rebuke of Jude0-Christian values is the one that he’s going to favor. Get used to it and get out of Israel if you have children. I’m telling you, this coxucker is the most dangerous world leader EVER.

  • geb4000

I hope Israel’s leaders were smart enough to buy a bunch of military equipment from the US in 2008.

Israel should stop providing the avionics we rely on for our fighters… since we can’t make anything as good ourselves. But O’mama would likely welcome it.

  • shoey

i’m horrified but not surprised, if we can take back the House we might be able to force the issue, but right now there isn’t a whole lot those of us who would like to help Isreal can do, god willing we can elect a conservative in 2012

American jews voted overwhelmingly for Obama so they’re getting what they deserve.

  • Eric

Meh.  The Russians will  be perfectly happy to sell their wares  to Israel.  Not as good as the F-35, perhaps, but certainly a match for the F-15 an for a whole lot less money.  Then there’s Eurofighter and Grippen.

What Israel needs to do is remind its American friends what a dangerous world it is out there and just how much more dangerous it would be if the Chinese were using Israeli radars on their AWACS.

  • HatlessHessian

President Obama’s aware that when Israel is no longer present, there won’t be a cause for all the unrest in the Middle East.  Israel has never gotten along and as many would point out, they come from a faith that has a reputation of being the source of wars.

I was proud to see American Jews stand up and vote overwhelmingly for President Obama in full awareness that he would lead a global effort to bring final peace to the Middle East by removing that which irritates Islam. As Sharia law expands in Europe and the United States, I’m hopeful that Jews will appreciate the role they had in bringing this conclusion forward. This time they can feel complete ownership in the outcome as their numbers in the 2008 election made the difference in bringing forward this great leader.

  • Eric

President Obama’s aware that when Israel is no longer present, there won’t be a cause for all the unrest in the Middle East.

And when will that be, when “Israel is no longer present”?  Do you think any of the other countries in the region will still be present on that day?  And anyway if Obama really thinks that he’s an idiot.

  • bob sanders

Does Mel Gibson post here under the name hatless hessian? Name one war the Israelis have started?

  • HatlessHessian

Eric and bob… many wars have been started in the name of the Jews. Read your history. President Obama is in a class of historical leaders who have recognized the plight they bring and is working toward a solution that will bring peace once and for all.

Eric, don’t you think Islam will be content to have removed all those in the Middle East and Europe that oppose it?

  • Eric

Obama is in a class of historical leaders who have recognized the plight they bring and is working toward a solution that will bring peace once and for all.

Sure, the peace of the dead.

Every jew on my block had an Obama sign on his lawn before the election.

That’s been my point as well. As one with many Jewish friends (and an background that curiously finds itself with many ancestors buried in Jewish cemeteries in Europe), I was beyond frustrated with their blind worship of Obama during the election. Most of them should know better, but today’s young Jews are clearly post-survivalist. They laugh at the alleged paranoia of their parents and grandparents who fled Europe and survived, and some even share the belief that things weren’t actually that bad. “The Holocaust only affected a few… probably the stupid few who did something to get in trouble in the first place.” They’re desperately seeking post-rationalization in order to post-shadow historical events.

The fawning association with the same types that attempted to exterminate their kind is so problematic that many who have continually defended Israel and the Jews have thrown up our hands and said “Look, I can’t keep bailing you out especially when you go looking for death.” One would think that an intelligent Jew would notice:

    - proud association with Islam and radical, Jew-hating left-wing organizations (Black Panthers, ACORN, etc.) in the USA
    - nationalization of the industries
    - political and military alignment with enemies of Israel
    - political and military isolation of Israel
    - distributing billions of taxpayer funds to brownshirt street agitating organizations like ACORN
    - organization of a brownshirt-led census which helps find out where the Jews live

I can tell you their ancestors would already be making preparations to either fight or leave. But actively fund-raising, supporting and electing Obama? Who are we to stop their quest for anihliation this time around?

“… The Russians will  be perfectly happy to sell their wares  to Israel.  Not as good as the F-35, perhaps, but certainly a match for the F-15 an for a whole lot less money.  Then there’s Eurofighter and Grippen. …”
I agree.  The US empire is done anyways.  Too much debt and Obama is creating even more (for short term political gain and long term irreversible pain).  The US dollar is tanking and this downward trend is only the beginning.  Once the yuan is allowed to float freely, the party will be over permanently for the Americans.  New York will be the new Detroit (see American auto industry).  Hong Kong and Singapore will be the new financial capitals of the world.

It is unfortunate that despite their military positioning, the Americans are not going to help Israel stop Iran’s nuclear program.  But long term, it may be the catalyst that allows Israel to find a new ally who will be better positioned to assist it in the years ahead.

  • D mockracy

Have we (U.S.) sold Hamas any advanced anti-aircraft missiles yet? I suppose the advance radar is on the way as well?

This POTUS is an absolute abomination in every aspect .

  • http://shakeypete.blogspot.com Peter

This kind of shows Obama’s shortsightedness. Israel has only two chances to survive. Either they have weapon systems so far ahead of the other guys that, although badly outnumbered, they can whip the whole lot of them, or nukes.

So, the Izzies lose the tech edge, what is left? Oh, yeah, that estimated one hundred to two hundred nukes.

Now it’s no skin of my backside, I’ve never been all that peaceable and would value the jobs coming to The US to replace the Iranian and Arab oil fields that would be glowing in the dark. I’m told, though, that lefties love peace. Of course, it’s my experience that lefties aren’t the brightest of all God’s little door prizes.

Israel & India have been getting close for the last 4-5 years, sharing military resources. The usefulness of this alliance is confirmed as BHO is shitting on both of them.

No matter what else President Bush did, he was for Israel.  Just before he left office, he ordered munitions be sent to Israel…probably because he feared obamanation would act as he is doing.

Not selling Apache or F15SE to Israel will cost the economy many more billions.

Don’t forget we might not get military aid but we can still do business elsewhere if needed.
Russia will sell Israel the MIG 35  if it wants to buy which is comparable to F15.
I am sure that some European states could be talked into selling their new multi roles fighters which short of the F22 are probably the better than anything being made by the US right now.
Grippen especially is great for Israels needs because its all set up for use with Israeli munitions & avionics, cost $60 million compared to F35 which is getting close to $200 million each and has short take off and land on civilian roads in the event of runways being bombed which in a country Israels size.

There is also the possibility of jointly developing a fighter UAV with a country like India to be the next generation of fighter for both countries and if its a project jointly developed with a foreign country the US can’t block sales so that means more competition on the export market.
Israel has proven in the past its capable of developing fighter jets all it needs is money and if a joint developer is found who will finance a large part of it then Israel can tell the US we don’t need your products.

Israel has designed a UAV helicopter already and will soon be coming into service for navel use its not a huge leap to take that helicopter and turn it into an attack helicopter.
Israel makes the weapon systems to mount onto it, I imagine a UAV would be preferable to Israel for helicopters as they are more vunerable anti aircraft missiles because they fly low & don’t have the speed of a fighter.

If Israel develops its own attack helicopter even after Obama is long gone Israel won’t be buying Apaches anymore so thats a long term loss to the US because Obama wanted to pull off a political stunt to show the muslims how much America loves them and hates Israel.

If he starts trying to stop non NATO members buying American fighter jets well thats not going to help the economy pick up it will take it the US from deep recession into full scale depression.
Its also going to be the beginining of the end of the US defense industry because unless the likes of Boeing are allowed to export their hardware its not going to be financially viable to develop new products because they know once they have filled US military orders they won’t be selling many more.
So they either won’t continue to invest in development or the price of the goods or to recover costs they will have to be so expensive that even the US military will reconsider what they should be buying.

After the canceling F22 instead of selling to long standing US allies ( I am not even talking about exporting to Israel ) so the decision not to export will cost tens of thousands of jobs.

Apache sales to Israel could be worth hundreds of millions.

Not wanting to sell F15SE again worth hundreds of millions.

If he starts stopping non NATO members fighter jets then thats going to cost the economy billions.

The man who got elected promising to sort out Americas economic problems seems to be creating even more problems by refusing to sell Apache & F15SE to Israel.
I wonder how history will remeber Obama .. will he be the man who delivered on his promises to give all people all things or will he be remebered as a man who went out of his way to hurt the economy and alienate Israels allies for politics?

Do you really think the rest of the  world wants an Islamic law which  which is intolerant to other religions indigenous to that country or geographic region? What, one global religious law  enforced by only one religion universally translates to “‘ New World Order” in any language. You must be mad both in mind and heart to truly believe in such a way.  And to will the destruction of Israel a  part of this one world Islamic law too!  Again I say you are mad.

  • Noor

Best news I have read in days.  Sorry folks but some of us are actually thrilled to know that the mad dog is being chained a little.

Before you all call me antisemitic for the animal reference, these are the words of Moshe Dayan.

“Israel must be like a mad dog, too dangerous to bother.”

And your Professor of the Battlefield, Martin Van Creveld, was quoted in London saying:

“We, Israel, have the capability of hitting most European capitals with nuclear weapons. We possess several hundred atomic warheads and rockets and can launch them at targets in all directions including Rome. Most European capitals are targets of our air force. As for being a rogue state, this bothers us not a whit.”

So, cry your hearts out. None of us want the Noahyde Laws in our countries. Make other alliances. The USS Liberty, the USS Cole, 911, we need no more such treachery in North America.

I am not an Obama fan by a long shot. Nor am I even American, but I applaud him and imagine Rahm Emmanuel threw a real hissy over this.

As for saying he is giving the Palestinians lots of concessions regarding the West Bank and those settler creatures, what a hoot. Israel goes BEYOND all or nothing and will broke no opposition, or there is a tantrum thrown.

As with Americans, I have a feeling your Zionist media and  education slant you in a certain direction and with your education formulated by your government, you know you are receiving a biased slant on things.  This is done in all cultures.

You have no idea that Israel is now almost the most hated country on the planet I am sure. Hate to blow your bubble, but this is the truth of it.

I do not hate any of you, but it is time your eyes were opened up to what the rest of the world sees and hears from your inglorious leaders.
