CBS Ahmadinejad Interview: Scary

div

I don't know what was more frightening..

Looking into the eyes of the man that seeks to eradicate the People of Israel, subjugate America while claiming to play the role of the World's great 'humanist'.. Or Mike Wallace's kid glove infatuation treatment, while literally interviewing the representative of the greatest threat to the Western World and laughing like a schoolgirl.

Questions regarding wiping Israel from the map, totally avoided by Assmad who claimed to not hate Israelis, only their 'oppression', pure propaganda.

Questions regarding Nuclear development? One the World's largest reserves of oil & natural gas with enough to last Iran at current estimates for 200 years answered by the one line: 'We need fuel'.

Questions regarding America culminating in a direct threat, stating basically that not succumbing to the Islamic Caliphate would lead to a 'bad end' for Bush & America.

And the cherry on top, reporting on 50,000+ suicide bombers sanctioned officially by Iran? ' I don't like to answer such questions', not even a denial but a big smile.

The Jihad isn't coming, it has already arrived

For Israel, now at such a crucial time with Hamas, Hezbollah and their sponsor Iran gunning to destroy the Jewish State how have our leaders responded? With weakness.

I'll put links in to blogs covering this issue in afterwards, my focus is on Israel and the imminent UN sham of a cease fire taking place in 4 hours.

I have extensive posts on Iran, their martyrs, their nuclear programs, their threats, weapons,  the EU intransigence and weakness and much more.

Magic Mofaz: You cannot take the fight out of this man

div

Never Surrender?Former IDF Chief of Staff, formerly Israel's Defense Minister until short few months ago, and the only man with any cohones in the cabinet casts the lone single abstention in key vote (Ynet), refuses to vote in favour of the cease fire..

Vociferously opposed delays in military operations in Lebanon..

  • Oversaw the targeted elimination of Hamas leaders
  • Successfully oversaw West Bank invasion during recent Operation Defensive Shield with ally Ariel Sharon.. Delivering a key anti-terror victory crushing 2nd intifada

Is Mofaz perfectly positioned for major leap forward in the political chaos that will surely ensue in Israel?

Lessons for the Jihad - The Victory belongs to Israel

div

Will the Hezbollah and Hamas learn their lesson, or continue believing their own hype?

Take a long look at this gem today from a Hezbollah terrorist captured in yesterday's action, now recovering in an Israeli hospital. The realities of the situation for Hezbollah should become clearer..

YNET - Injured Hizbullah operative: Didn't hear of ceasefire

Moderately injured operative hospitalized in Israel, says Hizbullah fighters in the field were not informed of ceasefire. Deputy hospital director: 'Any patient that enters our hospital receives best treatment possible' [...]

Originally, the operative seemed to be under the impression that he was in a Lebanese hospital or UN outpost on Lebanese soil, however, due to the Hebrew conversations around him, he eventually understood that he had been taken prisoner. To the journalists straining to interview him, he released only one sentence: "Tell my family I am alive, injured, and receiving medical treatment."

A number of hours later, a few hospital workers managed to get a little information from the operative. "My name is Abdullah Nasser and I only ask that my family be told that I'm alive and wounded," he said. "Believe me, I'm sorry about this war and everything it's caused. Now I only hope for peace and that I'll be able to return home. We didn't hear of a ceasefire, our fighters in the field were told nothing of such a thing." [...]

Let's analyze the big achievements of Nasrallah

The bold statements of Nasrallah are exposed for the pure unadulterated lies they are, Hezbollah has been pounded to pulp while Nasrallah hides in a bunker and releases videos. Much like another brave hero Bin Laden, who's organization has also been literally eviscerated the past 5 years by the Americans. If you ask the Arabs and Muslim supporters though, they will tell you of the great power and brave victories, um huh.. Sure, whatever you say.

Shell Shock

These Hezbollah fighters are shell shocked, never in their lives have they seen or imagined the forces of the IDF who yesterday opened up on them so hard they are in lala land. In '82 it was the PLO that was routed, booted all the way to Tunis on another continent in a matter of days they got routed so badly. These Hezbollah guys, this is their first real taste of us Zionists and the taste is bitter indeed. Sorry over the war, living in a bunker and getting their asses kicked clear across Lebanon thanks to their idiotic leader and his moronic ideologies. Firing rockets at our Women and Children, let me be the first to tell them as they emerge from their shock - we will kill you if need be and now you know. The combined Arab Armies took a few consecutive devastating hits to learn this, for Hezbollah's sake I hope their first go was enough.

It's not only Hezbollah that has been handed their tails, the Lebanese government weeps openly, Lebanon is a pot marked shell of what it was. It takes a real fool to go up against the regional super power and think he is going to come out on top in the end. Unfortunate that Lebanon was to weak to act and prevent this, lesson learned I hope. The big statements by Hezbollah are nothing more than propaganda and only an uneducated weenie would take them at face value.

Command & Control

The fighters putting it on the line for Nasrallah are an unhappy bunch and with good reason. Now, they are a demoralized unhappy bunch - Cut off from the fantasy world of Nasrallah's bunker and Al Jazeera's dreams. They aren't even getting the headline news, never mind their orders. It should be said they have fought hard and they are a loyal crew, but they never stood a shot in hell. If they open fire on the IDF after the deadline, they will take another fist to the face, this time with the IDF all around them.

You got your cease fire Kofi, Hezbollah got their overplayed hand, it's our turn now. Let me assure you, whether Nasrallah admits it or not.. They've been hit harder than they ever imagined was even possible in their wildest dreams, and there's a jarring left hook still coming if the Hezbollah open fire on the IDF after 8 AM tomorrow.
IDF - Israeli Defense Forces

This isn't 1936 any more

You screw with the joooz now and you're going to regret it - if not find yourself six feet under. You want to criticize us? That's fine, you want to marginalize us in the media and the BBC? That's fine, you want to pretend you have us just where you want us?

Keep dreaming, that's more than fine you go right ahead..

Just remember at the end of the day exactly who the super power in the Middle East really is, and open up your history book because we don't lose wars, we win them - even when our leaders give our boys 24 hours like the fools they are. For anybody else who wants to line up? I say come and get it. The combined Arab armies learned these lessons the hard way, let's hope the Terrorists are quicker on the uptake.

Talk is cheap

Please don't be fooled by anti Israel media, and the big talk of Jihadists. Talk in the Middle East as I've posted here before is cheap, the blood of the Jews after attempted genocide however is not. For all the Jihadists out there and the terrorists, and the Hamas, and the Islamo facists, know this - Your buddies in Hezbollah got a lesson in Zionism 101 this month, keep sending rockets at our Women & Children and we will kill you, figuratively and literally.

The Hezbollah has their chance now to save some face and disarm, if they don't and they keep shooting they will have sealed their fate. Even Olmert & Peretz with all their bumbling can't change these facts..

Israel wants its soldiers back

I would advise Lebanon to get cracking on this and immediately, lest they be signed up for Zionism 201. The Political will may have been lacking in Israel, but the IDF given the chance as evidenced the last few hours certainly never has.

Litani Offensive General Update

div

Updates Below

The IDF is fighting hard in Lebanon on the Litani offensive.

Forces have been upgraded from 6 brigades to 3+ full divisions, which for general purposes we will say is about 20,000 fighting men.

  • Operations have moved over 10 KM into Lebanon on the ground, and airborne operations via helicopter are farther in still.
  • It is clear, generally speaking that the IDF will secure ground north, and operate at greater length waiting for the full cessation of fire towards the south in mop up operations.
  • A number of dozens of Hezbollah fighters killed in fighting today. Seven IDF soldiers killed  on the sabbath.
  • IDF Special Forces are also involved a 'one of a kind operation' in Lebanon. Read that as mass chopper insertions.

The race is on to secure larger objectives. The IDF has moved to secure high ground around the Litani River in a rapid advance, will enclose the Hezbollah and squeeze it. In such high mobility movements with armor also moving in rapid support, and the establishment of artillery fire zones the Hezbollah don't stand much of a chance.

These combined arms and the IDF speed are the Hezbollah worst nightmare. Until the pincer has closed and fighting becomes more fixed with Hezbollah able to utilize their bunker networks, and cockroach like hiding tactics they are very much on the defensive. It will take a few days to secure territory before clearing can begin.

I will update the Tyre situation which has seen interesting activities once operations have ceased. All the big names like Bit Jbeil, Al Marajoun that have been in the headlines are involved or bypassed entirely well North.

It was evident before the advance that Hezbollah had taken the worse for wear in this conflict, but there is now a move to make gains large enough that the media will report it as such as well.

With no real force that will engage the terrorists coming in once hostilities cease, it is now critical for the IDF to do as much as possible in long term damage to the Hezbollah..

UPDATE: Surrender with Honor

JPOST: An Israeli radio station, broadcasting in Arabic into Lebanon called upon all Hizbullah operatives south of the Litani River to completely cease their fighting against Israel.

The message called upon the operatives to raise a white flag over their houses, gather their weapons and place them in a common area outside their homes, Channel 2 reported.

An IDF 'Yasur' Chopper
Airborne Rapid Insertion: If you are Hezbollah, you don't want to see these babies landing next door, as they 'disgorge' quite a few of the World's most motivated fighting Men who take particular pride in anti-terror operations. (Yasur / CH-53)

UPDATE II - One of the many dozens of choppers used in the offensive has gone down, shot by Hezbollah. Unfortunate clearly & sad, but to be expected as these helicopters are ferrying units & supplies to a rapid forming distant front.

UPDATE III - I just saw the fabulous Jennifer Griffin on Fox News Channel speaking about the IDF MLRS, or Multiple Launch Rocket System, similar to the US version and making up some of the artillery fire zones I mentioned above.. She correctly called it a fierce weapon system. It is indeed, the multiple rockets carried on this mobile launcher are independently targeted, and also can contain independent warheads as well as bomblets with a devastating area affect.

Israel has pioneered / upgraded its MLRS type systems beyond the usual effectiveness in both range & accuracy, up to 150 KM which is frankly unreal, with strikes within feet and metres of their target. Keeping in mind that these are just rockets, they make the Hezbollah rockets which are lethal enough look like firecrackers..

Here is some info on the Israeli TCS system being applied to these highly effective weapons.

If one remembers footage from both the Gulf Wars, the mighty USA made great use of these MLRS artillery systems, I believe this was the 1st use of them in combat actually (may be mistaken) and they were quite devastating against Iraqi forces.

Weak UN Resolution 1701 Passes 15 to 0

div

Cease fire resolution passes in the UN - Israel sold down the river by the USA, much in part to weeks of Israeli govt weakness.

If you will excuse me, I need to go have a good cry with analysis to follow. IDF active until Sunday morning when the Security Cabinet meets to vote & ratify the resolution.

Kofi Anan 10 minute speech fails to mention the word Hezbollah - A good indication of how one sided and absurd this international farce of a resolution is. Israpundit has the resolution text if you want to twist the knife around in the wound a little..

Blackout Notice: IDF on the Move

div

I will be actively posting during Israeli ground forces moves into Lebanon, but will not be commenting on military operations directly and following a self imposed blackout for safety / security reasons.

Maps, reports on the tactical activities will be forthcoming as soon as positions are secured, the moves already carried out. Thank you for understanding - Please pray for the safety of thousands of brave Israeli soldiers on the front line of the Jihad.

saus

UPDATE: Unconfirmed reports that IDF moves have halted, Olmert has ceeded to the UN cease fire resolution!? Is it even possible that once again the leash has been pulled back on the IDF? Pls See the posts just below on the hashmonean mainpage, or this one Coalition of the Unwilling for details. This resolution seems like a diplomatic disaster, my brain is having difficulty processing these details frankly.

I await official comment from the government of the State of Israel

UPDATE II: Shortest all out offensive in the history of the world! Sure to be rivaled only by the remaining length of Olmert's piss water government, and let us clarify - I AM A KADIMA supporter.

UN Capitulation to Terrorists

div

Almost every Lebanese / Hezbollah demand met - Israel's demands ignored.

Information is still developing on the resolution, but keep in mind this is the 2nd version. The first version was rejected by Lebanon, accepted by Israel. This newer resolution flat out rejected by Israel has now been delayed to at least 7 PM eastern at the UN. The effort to make the UN relevant again has totally failed, derailed by the despot nations that largely make it up..

Fox News reports on Condi's diplomatic failures - US objectives not achieved, failure to achieve Israeli objectives, failure to defend the free world from the dangerous double standard which allows terrorists to operate with impunity, failure to secure Lebanon's future free of Hezbollah terrorists.

[...] Rice telephoned Olmert to plead with him to stop an expanded ground offensive he ordered moments before as France and the United States announced they reached an agreement on a cease-fire resolution that would be presented to the Security Council at 3 p.m. EST.

[...] In her call to Olmert, Rice asked if there was any room left for diplomacy and he indicated he'd be willing to call off the offensive if Israel's basic demands are met, said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the private conversation

Lebanon's moves to deny the ability of any international, or useless UNIFIL force to truly engage Hezbollah, disarm them - Approved.

Lebanon's objections to a real international force, the position of the G8, the US and the World just short weeks ago? - Approved. Instead we get UNIFIL.

Lebanon's insistence on the Sheba Farms, an entirely unrelated issue that is really a gift-horse for Hezbollah? - Approved.

Lebanon's refusal to immediately release Israel's abducted soldiers, instead a focus on negotiations with Hezbollah terrorists? - Approved.

Kofi, the weakest link at the UN insisted at the outset that UNIFIL would need a whole new mandate, did it arrive? No, but the weak diplomats are satisfied to pretend it appears.

The USA leading the war on Terror, capitulates almost entirely to the French & Arab World, Israel after weeks of weakness finally moving in larger numbers on the ground. God speed to the forces of the IDF but the damage has clearly been done to Israel's diplomatic position.. The UN it appears never took Israel's positions seriously at all, it is no wonder why, history repeats itself..

The crying Lebanese puppet government - responsible for the conflict through a failure to meet UN resolution 1559 or reign in terrorists in any way, have their feet kissed by the World's great powers - and most shockingly of all, the United States of America.

The Coalition of The Unwilling

div

UPDATED below on the green light
—————————————–

Olmert & Peretz:

  • Both leaders failed to secure victory in the political arena.
  • Both leaders failed to secure victory on the battlefield.
  • Now both leaders appear destined to lose on the diplomatic front.

After weeks of delays, hesitation, and threats that never materialized - The duo of Olmert & Peretz have simply been for months now utterly ineffective on every front.

Politics
div

Olmert - Early in 2006, with Ariel Sharon incapacitated Ehud Olmert served as the interim acting Prime Minister of the State of Israel. The newly minted Kadima party facing a national election seemed poised to pounce, an almost certain victory within its grasp. With approval ratings soaring and a solid block of the country's center hungry for representation, Kadima seemed prepared to cruise to the finish line. Polls showed Olmert peaking only weeks before the election, upwards of 44 of the Israeli Knesset's 120 seats within his grasp. Such a solid majority in the traditionally fractured coalition politics of Israel represented a near carte blanche for his radical political ideas of withdrawal in the West Bank.

In the final weeks of the election with Hamas already rising to power in Gaza, an unusual change of direction began to pass. In the final short weeks of the long campaign, week after week polls showed a worrying trend. Olmert began bleeding seats, at first it was a trickle, from 44 down to 42. Ehud was all smiles, but the next week the smiles were tempered as Kadima hit 40. Before long the party was already polling in places in the high 30's. As the election day neared, only days away an ugly question was in the air, was Mr. Olmert a closer?

Peretz - On the cusp of what seemed an unlikely victory in itself, Amir Peretz entered the election season as the newly minted leader of the Labor party, beating out veteran Labor politician Shimon Peres. A sense of euphoria seemed to permeate the Labor ranks, similar to the euphoria seen in the far left of the American Democratic party under Howard Dean, as he himself neared the Iowa primary. Peretz like Dean was a radical, a revolutionary. His entire campaign featured revolution in fact as his theme. Under him the socialist dream would be reborn in Israel.

The similarities to Dean do not end there, with the party promising a revolution in shrill campaign speech after speech Peretz marched on towards the election. For Dean it all came crashing down in Iowa, he never did secure the Democratic ticket - the screech heard round the world had tempered his march to victory. For Peretz, the finish line seemed closer. His meltdown was evident to all but the Labor faithful in a shrill and hollow looking speech just before the election in the city of Bet Shemesh. The Labor faithful believed, but those of us looking in could see that victory for Peretz and Labor would be elusive indeed.

Election Night

On election night, neither leader would be pleased with the results. Olmert peaking at 44, secured only 29 mandates. One of the thinnest margins imaginable, Kadima barely crawled to victory in the election. Omert had won, but the image of a powerful closer would not be his to claim. For Peretz reality was even more unkind. Labor did not produce any revolutions, at 19 or so mandates the traditional power party of Israel had seen itself humbled by the electorate, one of the worst showings in party history. Denied their victory, the two party leaders formed their 'coalition of the unwilling'. Olmert claiming the PM seat, while Peretz insisted on Defense Minister. Only Ted Kennedy himself could probably be considered a more unlikely Israeli defense minister, no one in Israel but the revolutionaries were amused. Neither man could claim victory under these circumstances.

The Battlefield - Gaza
div

For months following the disengagement from Gaza Hamas sat idly by, quietly supporting a barrage of rocket fire that quickly made living in the southern town of Sderot nearly impossible. Day after day, rockets pounded the civilians in the area. Olmert, promising 'an Iron Fist' on terror unleashed the air power of Israel. In targeted attack after attack, the ranks of the Islamic Jihad - responsible for much of the rocketing were thinned. Despite the unwavering aerial attack, the rockets continued. Neither Olmert, the IDF or its defense minister could produce a solution. For Amir Peretz, a native of the town of Sderot the situation was particularly unpleasant.

With the vaulted disengagement plan hanging in the balance and amenable to both leaders, neither man was prepared to send in ground troops to Gaza. Such a move would be an acknowledgment of disengagement failure. They hesitated, they waited, they threatened, and in the end little was done. Before long, Hamas sensing the weakness became emboldened. Despite their international semi-seclusion (a limited diplomatic victory for Olmert & his popular foreign minister Livni on the wings of America) Hamas could smell resistance. Corporal Gilad Shalit was abducted early one morning in a vietcong type attack that caught the IDF off guard.

Facing political disaster the two leaders reluctantly acted. At first the most limited engagements imaginable. Hampered and with a hand tied behind its back by a defense minister in over his head, and a PM who talked a big talk but never seemed to deliver, the IDF pounded Gaza with an aerial campaign. Results were elusive. Tentatively, Olmert sent in some small unit sized forces to Gaza, cut bridges, took positions a kilometer or two from Gaza's borders and waited.

For days, tanks massed, troops waited eager to rescue Gilad or at least pound the hamas into the ground. But the order to invade never really came. Before long, this political weakness would embolden a far more dangerous enemy. Once again, the issue would remain open, Olmert was again evidenced as far from a closer. Even now Gilad Shalit, months after his abduction remains in Hamas hands. The IDF, limited to small engagements taunts & picks at Gaza, but Olmert is more concerned with public opinion, not his own per say but that of Europe and the UN and of his shaky coalition of the unwilling.

The Battlefield - Lebanon
div

Four full weeks of Lebanese entanglement later, with two soldiers abducted, 8 killed initially and 80+ more lost in battle Olmert again has shown himself unable to close. At first, unwilling to deploy any troops at all Olmert elected for another aerial campaign. Bombing more bridges, more targets, bombing day and night brought limited results. Long range rockets were destroyed, some communication abilities degraded, supply depots hit. Within days the IDF appealed to PM Olmert, we need troops. Again, unwilling to commit Olmert looked to unit sized engagements. The best of Israel were thrust into Lebanon, lacking numbers, lacking ground support they met stiff resistance and there were casualties.

The option to commit, to command and to conquer for Peretz & Olmert was in their grasp. They wavered, they stalled. Olmert claimed that nothing would deter him or the IDF. He was partially right, the IDF was not detered, yet the soldiers never came, and the security cabinets never gave the order. As battles raged with losses to Hezbollah mounting, young IDF soldiers gave the ultimate sacrifice. The IDF stabbed into Lebanon, only to pull back and repeat over and again. It became clear to all that the time had come for a real invasion. Thousands of soldiers were called up, reserves mobilized, but again small unit engagements were ordered. Small slivers of Lebanon were to be the order of the day, a limited security zone, not to be held, not to be fully cleared, but to be stabbed into repeatedly.

The Litani and victory was in the IDF's grasp, if only the order were given. It never came. Diplomacy would be the ultimate victory Peretz & Olmert promised, and again Israel blustered. The IDF was ready to roll - the frustration and anger in their voices plain for all to see, as they rolled not towards the Litani and victory, but out of Lebanon last night to cease the fire that never fully materialized. After thousands of rockets, over a hundred killed, with Israel's fighting men begging to protect the state, the political will was lacking. "Tomorrow you will pay" they declared in political land, more threats, more empty words, more soldiers fighting in limited engagements.

Diplomacy
div

Why should Israel's diplomatic initiatives be any different? The resolution has been pulled, replaced now with another an even worse one. Twice now the supposed 'weak' Lebanese government has rejected the resolutions, backed by the the Worlds other big talkers - the French & the Arab World. Israel has yet again declared - Diplomacy! Or else the gloves come off. But we have seen Olmert's Iron Fist, it has pounded the residents of the North, while leaving Hezbollah for another day. The big socialist Peretz? Left them wallowing in the dark, neither an invasion or economic aid very forthcoming.

We will see today the big non results from the UN. The IDF has been frustrated, its pleas for action ignored. The residents of the North are unavenged, the rockets are ever flying. Hezbollah men were killed in great numbers, but they are not disarmed, there is no international force deployed, there is not even an IDF force deployed..

The words of Israel's leaders today as we speak are hollow, one trusts Olmert & Peretz have done what they could. Socially, militarily, politically, and now it appears diplomatically they have failed to deliver on every count.

Cease Fire
div

Cease the fire, pull out the small unit engagements, send the boys home. Swap the prisoners, send terrorists on their merry way and bring the three soldiers home to their families. Do it all quickly please.. So that the calls for unity are ended, and let the calls for national elections begin. Do it sooner than later, so that the next leaders of Israel facing the next set of existential threats, will bring home the victory. It will not be long before war in the North returns.

The nation of Israel was clearly prepared for battle, the IDF could clearly deliver it in spades, I've never doubted them for a second.. But it has been clear even from the days of the campaigns, that these two leaders simply lacked the will to win.

They truly are, the coalition of the unwilling.

JPOST: Analysis: IDF fumes over denied victory
YNET: 73 % say government failed on home front
Haaretz: Truce draft doesn't call for disarming of Hezbollah Military chiefs strongly oppose cease-fire terms

YNET IDF wants to 'move, fight and attack'

[...] Brigadier-General Alon Friedman, Chief of Staff of the IDF 's Northern Command, told Ynet, "The army doesn't like waiting. Due to the nature of things forces want to move, to fight and to attack."

According to Friedman many Hizbullah rocket-launching cells are now operating just north of the areas in which the IDF is fighting, which obligates the homefront to stay in shelters. "We don't like having them in shelters, and we want to do everything to protect them," the officer said.

The mood of waiting and uncertainty was clearly felt among reservists as well. One soldier, a reservist from an elite unit, told Ynet, "The situation is extremely difficult, it damages motivation. We were on the verge of entering, our faces painted with camouflage, all of our equipment ready and at the last minute they brought us back. This is happening all the time. We have friends in Lebanon - we should have gone in to give them backup, to fulfill our missions, but the state is hesitating. It's not healthy - it's dangerous. If they don't need us here they should send us home."

Other soldiers from the unit discussed their feelings with their commander. "We're ready to go in and carry out any mission and slay our fear, but they're stopping us anew every time. In the end this will cost in human lives," one soldier said. [...]

UPDATE: Olmert & Peretz (holding the final say after cabinet deliberations approved an IDF offensive) give the green light for expanded operations to the Litani. Faced with rockets striking Haifa, a confused public and an absolutely resolute military according to YNET.
