Congresswoman: Show me the money
Congress looking at inflated Palestinian Population numbers, wondering where the aid went.
Worldnet has this story which has been brewing, pursued by the righteous Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen who is the chairwoman of the House International Relations Subcommittee on the Middle East.
It seems census data has for some time now been inflated by the PA.. Aid flows per capita, so bumping up the population numbers can mean bumping up the dollars, congress is apparently not impressed.
The tenacious Aaron Klein at Worldnet:
The United States government must conduct an inquiry into the almost $3 billion in taxpayer funds that may have been distributed as aid to the Palestinians in part based on fraudulent data provided by the Palestinian Authority, Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Fla., chairwoman of the House International Relations Subcommittee on the Middle East, told WorldNetDaily.
The subcommittee last week heard testimony from the leaders of a new study that documents the Palestinians have inflated their population numbers by over 50 percent, in some cases counting residents of certain cities twice.
U.S. assistance to the Palestinians was based on the population numbers provided by the PA. Recent study shows that the PA numbers were grossly inaccurate. There should be an inquiry as to what happened to the extra funds,” said Ros-Lehtinen.
“U.S. and United Nations future funding to the Palestinian territories should reflect the actual population numbers in the Palestinian territories and not the inflated data provided by the PA.”
Since 1994, the United States has reportedly given nearly $1.8 billion in direct aid to the PA and nongovernmental organizations operating in the Palestinian territories, usually delineated through the U.S. Agency for International Development. America has also provided more than $1.1 billion to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, which oversees Palestinian refugee camps in the West Bank and Gaza, according to State Department records. The American House has been leaving an impressionable mark on me here in Canada in this regard, the testimony I’ve watched on C-Span has shown general concern to do the proper thing, navigating a minefield while still maintaining fundamental American principles.. Lying and Jihad not being two of them. Funding support for Hamas in its current form is simply not an option.
The White House seems on board, the National Security Strategy Hamas Factor from yesterday a clear marker, what remains to be seen is how the notoriously in its “own step” Dept. Of State handles matters. According to Robert at Jihad Watch, Condi Rice has her work cut out for her.
She’s already tried to reform somewhat the Dept. under her care, it will take more than that to pull in the beast from Foggy Bottom. Bob wants to see some clarity in her vision, can’t argue with that. Between Quartets, Iran, Iraq, Hamas, Special Envoys, Arab Allies, the War on Terror, not too mention the Global Jihad etc.. Any moves lacking a basic clarity are bound to reverberate badly.
